Do you have a "Factory recovery disk"? You could contact toshiba and purchase a Factory recovery disk with you SN from your laptop. My Factory disk was $20.00. The toshiba support page http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/i... Or you can you can search here for a win 7 64 bit recovery disk here and download , burn to a disk and if it will load you have options to repair. Push come to shove you may have to remove the HDD and reformat. that a drastic step. CAN YOU REMOVE THE BUTTON CMOS BATTERY AND THAT MAY HELP.

SOURCE: bios update

Hello!!

I am not sure after installing which update the display has gone. I mean Windows update or HP software update or BIOS update.

Let me take the senario of the BIOS update and assist you in this regard.

If the display has gone after installing the BIOS update, then the issue cases are 1. Installed wrong BIOS update 2. Notebooks might have restarted or hanged while installing the BIOS update.

In both the cases BIOS will get currupt and there will be no display on the notebook.

Solution for the issue is: If you notebook is under warranty, HP will arrange for mail-in repair, plss contact HP. If the notebook is out of warranty, then you need to contact HP authorized service center.

Froze after update, now won't boot, just goes to logo screen and wheel spins and spins

Try going into BIOS on boot (press F1/F2/DEL or F10 depending on your laptop) and hunt for the 'reset BIOS to default' option. Do this, Save and Exit. Now start pressing the F8 button and see if you can boot to 'safe mode'. If you can, and you are running a version of Windows, you can go to programs/windows update section to try uninstalling the last update which probably caused the initial problem. If none of that works you may need a bootable system recovery disk which can be bought cheaply on eBay if you have not got one.. Good Luck

What you can do is use a friends laptop or computer and create a recovery disc on there computer then put that disc into your laptop or you can borrow there windows disc.
Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

HP 4530s BOIS image cannot be read - update: Using Windows 7 Pro 64bit

BIOS is stored on a CMOS chip on main board. Used to instruct hardware during boot. It's not accessible in Windows.

A BIOS update may fix the problem. Here is the link. Just make sure to follow instructions and precautions! This is something you want to get right the 1st time.

Good Luck

Need to update bios toshiba satellite c660,using ubuntu live dvd, will not boot hard drive, all normal recovery options used up

Hi There,
There are currently no easy ways to update a bios through linux at all - including live cd's. Your best bet is to make a bios update USB stick (or floppy depending on the age of the computer)
Here's a link to those instructions:
http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-usb-stick.htm
Alternatively, speaking from my own experience with a similar situation, you can take the hard drive out, use it in place of the usb stick, boot from it, update your bios, and go from there.

Toshiba Satellite : X205-S9810 won't boot after i installed new hard drives/ used recovery discs. System just keeps running the green bars across the bottom.... installed two 250 gb in place of the 160's...

If you put the old hard drive back in your system and it works fine, log onto Toshiba's web site and download the updated drivers, firmware and BIOS. It is really easy to do.
Try this linkI hope it helps.

Bios Faile

bios is always risky update, and toshiba is very well known to stuff up they bios...

first advice, never, ever, update bios from inside of your operating system...

as your computer is already dead, try this method, i cannot recall if you have phoenix or amibios but should work on both:

1. remove power and battery from dead laptop
2. download again bios and unfold it, remember the folder, do not run it!
3. go to this folder and find file with suffix *.rom, rename it to amiboot.rom
4. copy amiboot.rom to usb drive
5. plug usb drive into usb port
6. press and hold fn+b, plug in power cord and press power button
7. if after few seconds you see screen flashing and toshiba logo then returns, you just saved your laptop and few dollars...
8. allow it to boot, switch off, re-insert the battery and use as before.

if this do not work, i am afraid tha tyou need to find some toshiba centre which will flash and re-program bios for your. do not get conned into replacing motherboard! there are non-toshiba repairers which charge between $30 and $100 to flash "dead" bios, toshiba for replacement motherboard want over $300.00

if you find my advice helpful, plese do not hesitate to leave comment and vote 4 fo rme, thanx!

* If it's a BIOS problem, try this :

1. Shutdown ur system, and remove the BIOS battery.
2. Reinstall it and start again.
3. You can also replace the battery. (if above steps don't works!)
4. Try to get a updated version of BIOS driver. (if above steps don't works!)

* If u r also hearing any kind of beep sounds, it may be bad RAM (memory). Try this :

1. Shutdown ur system, and remove the RAM.
2. Reinstall it and start again.

tell me if these steps don't work! :)

Toshiba 4100XDVDwill not bootup. screen says insert disk to upgrade bios.will allow me to get to the setup menu

You will need to go to Toshibas support site and find the proper BIOS download for this computer. In the options for the download, you are going to have to download it so it can be burned to bootable media...like a bootable cd rom. That way when you boot the laptop up, it will boot off the disc, and upgrade your BIOS....if it goes wrong you will be shopping for a new motherboard or a BIOS chip reprogram.
