If you used capacitors from Radio Shack, that may be why. RS uses whatever they can get in the values spec'd, so they really are only adequate for general purpose use.

When I do a repair on a power supply, I order "High Ripple Current" types, or even the newer style polymer types, and step up in the working voltage slightly. So a 16 volt cap gets a 25 colt cap, a 25 volt cap gets a 35 volt cap and sometimes a 35 volt cap will get a 50 volt cap.

Now- if you did order high ripple types, check the transistors in the inverter section. They can fail too. If they check okay, then look at the inverter transformers. They do make a test tool for them, and not too expensive for what it does, but you can also check the transformers with a "Grid Dip Meter". They must be out of the circuit or you may get some false faults.

Sometimes you can find a faulty transformer by locking the PWM controller on- the method is usually described in the data sheets for that particular controller IC from the manufacturers data sheets, and if a transformer is bad, it may reveal itself with a whine, or by flaming out. Digikey dot com does have a wide selection of the PWM controller IC's, and you can get the datasheet online from them if they carry that IC. Otherwise you need to rely upon the manufacturer's website or a site like Datasheet archive.

If the set has more than 3000 hours of use- consider replacing the CCFL tubes.

SOURCE: Philips 50 Inch Plasma Model 50PF7320A/37 will not turn on

Commonly it's going to be a power supply related problem. The two boards that need to be looked at is the Main Power Supply Board or the power supply board for the screen. The one that powers the screen, some manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter Board.
If you have some electronic experience, you can sometimes find a Service Manual for the TV over the internet for less than $20. It will have the all resource material for repairing your TV model. It's just the matter of replacing the bad part on the circuit board.

The power board numbers you need to search for on eBay is 310432847531 or 310432838621 - they are compatible according to Philips.

SOURCE: my philips 42PFP5332D/37 keeps making a clicking

I had the same problem and it was the power supply board, but I replaced it myself and only spent about $140.00 for the part and 2 day shipping . It was easy just pull the back cover off and there are about 8 small screws that hold it on and like 6 connectors that's it. Also ShopJimmy.com was the place for parts on these T.V.'s.

SOURCE: the red standby light flashes and when the power

One of the boards (module) has a short on it, and or the power supply itself is failing.
The service center will find the fault using the process if elimination. They will replace the bad boards or modules as required to get the set working again.

If it EVER works, then the problem is not a failed part, but a weak part. The most likely component type to give you such problems are capacitors. But very few repair techs know how to find such problems, and even fewer have the equipment needed to find the bad one(s) in-circuit. The failure mode is high ESR (ESR means Equivalent Series Resistance). The lower the ESR, the better. Capacitors with high ESR cannot stabilize circuits which demand high pulse currents, such as in switch mode power supplies.

Samsung TV won't turn on. Red light is solid, won't blink when pressed. All capacitors seem fine (none swollen or vented).

That model is covered under a class actions lawsuit settlement over bad power supply boards. You need to contact Samsung about this and get a warranty claim started, even if the original warranty is over the settlement terms will cover parts and labor. You can get additional information about this along with contact information here: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/samsung-has-reached-a-settlement-in-class-action-lawsuit-over-faulty-tv-power-supplies/

Philips tv model number 50PFP5332D 37 wont power up

I have the model Philips 37PF7320A/37 won't turn on and MOST articles on the Internet say it's the Capacitors capictors capictors..I checked all of them. My tv just blinked red lights, had the clicking sound at first power on, but then goes black. No sound. No picture. Nothing. Just blinking red lights.

MINE WAS RESISTOR no. 3318 , a 100 OHM RESISTOR ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD.

I BOUGHT REPLACEMENT FOR .99 CENTS SOLDER IT, AND EVERYTHING WORKED!!!

THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK.

JUST A SUGGESTION..
1. CHECK FOR BULGING CAPACITORS (90 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM)
2. THEN CHECK FOR RESISTORS WITH MULTIMETER ( FALLS INTO THE OTHER 10 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM.)

TELL ME IF THAT HELPS..normanw1@yahoo.com

its the capacitor inside the tv open it up and you should see atleast 1 capacitor which has bulged ( looks like glue coming out of it ) usually a 3000 ~ you can replace these yourself no problem for around 10p each but i do warn you there is a chance you could lose your built in freeview in doing so!

I have a Gateway LP2207 Monitor and it will only turn on for 2 seconds then turn off. It was running fine originally until I went to lunch, came back and the monitor was black. I took the advice on this...

It sounds like your original problem was indeed a power issue that was having trouble keeping the lamps on. Replacing the capacitors was a 50/50 shot at repairing the problem and it sounds like in the process the monitor is now completely dead. The click is the lamp attempting to fire.
While you may have connected the cabling incorrectly I can not find a schematic for the inverter board to clarify what goes where. I also know that you should replace all the electrolytic capacitors as well as the ceramic capacitors as unseen damage may have occurred to them as well.

I have a RCA 32" Flat Screen TV that shut off and

Hi,

The sound was came from the clicking of the relay. This kind of symptoms is an indication of out-of-regulation condition on the power supply section. This is caused by faulty electrolytic capacitor. It will dropped the supply voltage and will trigger that kind of symptoms.

Faulty electrolytic capacitor mostly has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identified. See sample picture of faulty electrolytic capacitor below.

jdvillanueva_97.jpg

capacitor with bulged/dome at the top.

Check these parts on the power supply section. Once found, replaced it with same capacitance and working voltage which is printed on its body itself. Click this LINK for more info regarding electrolytic capacitor.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a qualified TV Technician to isolate the faulty parts.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hello,

power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

I hope this will help out in solving the problem....
