I don't think the compressor is working. There is a continuous "clicking" noise coming from the back of the unit, but the temperature does not change .The doors are tight and it does not need defrinting. I am unsure if it is a bad relay or a bad compressor. If it is the compressor, I'm not sure its worthfixing.Any ideas will be gratefully rceived.ssor

Change the start relay on the compressor.

  • Kenneth Rieth Nov 07, 2012

Thanks Richared, I'll give it a try and follow up.

  • Kenneth Rieth Nov 11, 2012

Changed the start relay/capacitor, but still doesn't work. Does this mean a bad compressor? Also, the LED lights also don't come on when unit pluggeded in.

That's not good! What was that model number?

OK, the only thing left is the control board and since you said the LED's are not on, that is going to be the problem. Here is the control board to order.http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic... The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

  • Kenneth Rieth Nov 12, 2012

Thanks Richard, I'll try that next. Is this part difficult to replace? Also, are you pretty sure it is not the compressor, I wouldn't attempt that myself.

The board is easy to change. Below is a video to show you how to test the compressor.

This type of clicking sound from the compressor is from the starting device. It could be a weak starting device or the compressor could be stuck.

Is the compressor hot?

Check to be sure the coils and the condenser fan are clean. There should be no lint or dirt buildup at all on them.

  • Kenneth Rieth Nov 06, 2012

There is no lint or dirt on the coils or fan. Any other thoughts? When I plugged it back in, the LED temp lights did not come on.

SOURCE: GE Profile french door refrig not cooling but freezer is cold

Look into rear of freezer and see if a layer of frost is building on rear panel. If yes you will need unplug and manually defrost with a hair dryer. That will help speed things up. You will also need the correct model number to get the correct parts. The odds are the defrost heater is defective. Because cold air is heavier than warm it tends to settle to bottom freezer making it appear OK. If there is no frost in freezer rear wall then we would look for the air supply damper to be closed between compartments. Look and see what you are going to need do and I will look up the parts assuming your model is a PFSF5NJXBB I will return soon, Thanks, Sea Breeze

humid air in the house. any time you open the fridge, house air is sucked in. when you close it, the fridge cools the air and moisture from the warm air condenses on any cold surface. also check to see if there is a gap in the seal.

check the defrost thermostat , and any temp sensor that can determine the freezer temperature.

Does not stop cooling down

Door edges being warm is caused by what is called mullion heaters that operate to prevent humidity from condensing at these points.
Some refrigerators have an energy saver switch. Turn this switch if you have one to the energy saving position when the humidity is low. Is anything freezing in the refrigerator? If so setting the controls to a little higher setting may solve your problem.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.
