Good question. You might try heat and rubbing with a cloth dipped in vinegar.

Good luck

Swan steam iron 2200w

To descale make a solution of 3 parts distilled water to one part white vinegar, about a teacup full and pour into the irons water reservoir. Switch the iron on and set it on to the highest steam setting. Place a clean tea towel or similar on the ironing board and steam-clean it with the iron for a few minutes. The vinegar/distilled water solution will break down and expel the lime scale. Turn off the iron (unplug). Pour out the water and vinegar solution. Pour clean distilled water into the iron reservoir and steam-clean a new clean cloth for a few minutes. this will remove any residual vinegar etc. Turn off and unplug the iron and pour out the remaining water. Descale completed.
To clean the base (soleplate) first, make sure your iron is completely cool before cleaning.
There are a number of things to remove various stains. For general stains rub the bottom of the iron with table salt and a soft damp cloth. For marks left by limescale (a powderey white) use undiluted white vinegar on a soft cloth. Some stubborn stains can be removed with a paste made from baking soda and water. What ever you use make sure you rinse and wipe the soleplate dry before using again. Never under any circumstances use a metal scouring pad or wire wool type cleaner, this will scratch, mark, and probably damage the soleplate beyond repair.

The symptoms you describe are indicative of mineral buildup in your iron. The instructions probably say to use distilled water in the iron and may include a procedure for removing mineral deposits

How do you clean the soleplate? I have some residue/buildup that does not wipe off. I already did the self-clean to remove deposits but there is still "stuff" on the soleplate

You can use Rowenta Sole plate Cleaner. If you cannot find it locally, check online at retail sites like Amazon.
If you want to try a home made cleaner, Avoid abrasive cleaning powders or scouring pads.

Begin with a cold iron that is unplugged from the electrical outlet. Use a mild dish washing soap or laundry detergent to create a sudsy solution. Use a nylon mesh pad, sponge, or a clean cloth dipped in the solution to completely wipe off the soleplate of the iron. Wipe the soleplate clean with a damp cloth or rag.

If the soleplate is the victim of a starchy build up or corrosion of some form, you will need to use something a little stronger. Use a clean cloth dipped in white vinegar to remove the build up. Wipe the soleplate clean with a cloth dampened in clean water.

If this does not work, then you will need to heat a solution of white vinegar and salt until the salt dissolves. Using a clean cloth sipped in the heated solution, wipe the iron's soleplate clean. Continue wiping until you have removed all of the build up or corrosion. Remember to wipe the iron completely clean with a cloth dampened in clean water.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

It is sticky and looks like glue.It looks gooey

Hello :

Here I'm going to tell you the basics of cleaning your Rowenta iron :

Things You'll Need:1:Rowenta Soleplate Cleaning Kit
2: Ironing board
3:Clean, dry cloth
4:Two cotton terry cloths, such as washcloths

Now to the cleaning :

1:Pour out any water from the iron. Turn the steam iron on to the "Cotton" setting, which is the one with three dots on the settings dial.

2:Cover an area of the ironing board with a clean, dry cloth. Fold one washcloth or other piece of cotton terry cloth in half and place it onto the cloth on the ironing board.

3:Dispense a 2-inch long daub of cleaning solution onto the terry cloth. Run the heated iron over the cloth directly on the cleaning solution. Move the steam iron in a circular motion over the cleaner on the cloth for a minute or two.

4:Remove the steam iron from the cloth. Carefully wipe any remaining cleaning solution from the soleplate using the second terry cloth.

5:Add water to the steam iron. Turn on the "Steam" or "Burst of Steam" feature. Run the iron over the clean, dry cloth on the ironing board to ensure the cleaning product is entirely gone from the soleplate.

Sticky substance on iron plate

get some of the Rowenta remover, YOu put it on your sole plate when Iron is warm. I use an old facecloth, put some on the cloth, then drag the iron side ways or back and forth. Then a clean towel to clean, when it does nto remove, i put some directly on the iron, does a pretty great job.. keep up with the stuff. If you are using fusible things when you Iron, you set yourself up with sggrivation, but a teflon cloth from a quilt store or on line,.It is used for applique and works great.

Holes clogged with plastic

I would put the un-plugged iron in to the freezer so as to get the plastic as rigid as possible and then try to extract all of the plastic from the steam holes.

As far as cleaning the irons surface.

Step1 Place about a teaspoon of salt on a paper or cotton towel and run the iron over it on the high setting gently with the steam off. This will cause the dirt to stick to the salt and will wipe away easily. Step2 Rub the iron across newspapers to remove a waxy build up on the surface. Use the high setting with the steam off. Step3 Apply ammonia to a rag and use it to wipe the surface of the iron to remove oil. Use a separate cloth that is wet with water to rinse it off. Make sure the iron is turned off. Step4 Combine equal parts vinegar and baking soda and scrub the surface of the iron with it. Use a separate clean cloth to wipe away any residue. Step5 Heat in a saucepan a cup of vinegar and sprinkle in about a teaspoon of salt. Heat the mixture until the salt is dissolved. Use this to clean the iron's surface with a clean cloth. Use a second cloth to wipe away any residue.

Good luck
