That is the end of the line for that drive, you need a new drive. You MAY be able to recover the data on the drive you have by installing it in another computer (or this one once you get a new drive and reinstall your operating system) as a second drive and copying what you need or just ghosting the whole drive. Sometimes if you put the drive in the freezer it will help.

If you have important data on this drive you may want to have a pro try to recover it. When drives fail they can destroy internal parts, so use it as little as possible during the recovery process.

My compaq e500 doesn't start. how can i reformat my compaq?

you cant format a computer if it does not start !

Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

select safe mode with command prompt then type in chkdsk/f/r which will scan for and and attempt repair of bad files and bad sectors on hard drive

you should have no input while chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your computer or

Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue and then replace the file.

Type the following command and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

hope this helps

Boot certificate expired.

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the delete or F2 key

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart if this fails to fix the problem

During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing you might be able to work your way through problem if you are unable to find a solution

restart back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode

click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time
click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option

hope this helps you

My Dell Inspiron 6000 has Samsung Model MP0603H hard drive. The computer was working fine till this morning when it would not boot. I ran diagnostic using the Dell CD and the results stated: Error Code...

Those codes all apply to the hard drive itself..

Replacing the hard drive is all you should have to do.

Below is a link to a brand new hard drive that will work in your Inspiron 6000

Samsung sp2004c drive failure

My guess is that your hard drive is corrupted. If you have any extra hard drives (external or internal), try replacing your current hard drive with that one, and see if that works. If it does, you may have to take your Hard Drive to a computer shop to have it recovered.

If that doesn't work, then something corrupted your operating system. I would re-install the operating system (reformat may not be necessary, but is always better than just a reinstall, although you do lose all of your information during a reformat), and then try.

Hard Drive?

A Windows setting is what's rebooting the computer, and thats a bit hard to change since it wont run Windows at this point.

The clicking could have been the hard drive. I'd run the manufacturers diagnostic on it. Download (from another computer obviously) the diagnostic file(s) from (??). You didnt say what brand it is. Let's say it's a Seagate, go to seagate.com and then to support.

The diagnostic file with create a bootable floppy or cd. Set your computer to boot from which ever of those. Run the diagnostic. If it's a faulty drive and it's under warranty, check the website for info on how to get it replaced for free.

Send a comment after you've done that and we'll go from there.
