Question about Denon DVD-800 DVD Player
Help me trouble-shoot!
This is an RCA DRC 6100 DCD/VCR combo.
It reads beautifully and efficiently 90% of the time BUT whenever the optical scanner reaches the same point on each DVD it skips or freezes.
Because it reads fine, I assumed there is no problem with the lens or chips. Since it happens at the same point on every DVD, I can eliminate layer change problems.
In this model the optical scan mechanism moves back and forth on two metal rods. Because it moves fine most of the time, I assume the motor that moves it is fine (as I imagine it's a simple back and forth mechanism.) The gears also appear to be fine to my eye.
But whenever the scanner gets to the same point, the mechanism starts shaking back and forth and I can predict that it will skip or freeze a few seconds later. There was some lubricant caked around the rods so I tried to clean them. Though I was not as thorough as I could have been, i noticed little or no improvement....
With some models it's very sensitive to being level. try moving your dvd player to a common flat area. see if it's a little rocky or placing a single piece of paper under one of the corners...I had a dvd player that would freeze on every disc and since I moved it to the botton of the cable box it no longer locks up. Worth a try.
