Yes you need to install the ethernet driver . You can download it here. You can either enter your service tag number which can be found on the back of your CPU or you can manually select the model. Once done, it will display all the available drivers for your device. Make sure you choose the right Operating System and download/save the ethernet driver you need. Install it ands reboot the computer. Once the right driver has been installed, your computer should be able to detect your modem again.

Many of the Windows 7 drivers for your PC are part of the package or Microsoft has them..
Go to your device manager and delete the items with the yellow ! ..
Then have the system search for new hardware. When it comes back, ask that Microsoft find the solution...
If this does not work,
try here: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/mydl.asp?OS=Windows%2098
Then follow the instructions. It some instances, it will even read your PC and suggest the drivers for you... be sure to select the latest versions..
