Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I can't get my video card's tv tuner to work on my Sony VAIO VGC-LS30E after reinstalling Vista. When I attempt to watch TV in Windows Media Center, it gives me an error message saying no tuner hardware was detected.

The tuner is part of the video card. The driver I downloaded from Sony's site is the latest one available. It didn't change anything.

It's an NVIDIA card with a built-in tuner, which I checked after it didn't work the first time. Unfortunately, the driver they offer is the same one on Sony's site.

You need to log on to your manufactures website and download the latest driver for the tuner card.

Not sony, you need to find the manufacture of the actual componet usually happauge, and download their driver. Sony did build the computer but did not create the card which you are refering to.

Tv tuner will ot detect digital signal in windows media center, vista

All US TV signals are now digital, but most TV tuners are like our old TVs - analog. Are you sure your tuner is a DTV tuner? If not, you will need to replace it or get a DTV converter. A DTV converter will not let your computer pick the channel and time though.

But one footnote. Broadcast digital TV is often not the same a cable digital TV. If you get a cable digital signal it is encrypted to the actual serial number of the receiving box. No broadcast DTV converter can do this. This is how the cable company now controls the number of receivers and one has to pay for EVERY set.

Decoder problem with media center 2005

Try the Free Decoder addon K-Lite Codec Pack 5.51 posted on FileHippo.com. If not.... the Video Card may have a Driver Update and that should include the Decoder Software for TV or Cable.

PCI slot / TV tuner error

i am not an expert, but have lots of experience with my own media center. by moving the tuner card you changed the address of it which if the os does not recognize new hardware, it will not install the drivers for it. i believe you will have to use the device manager to reinstall the drivers for the tuner card. also will have to redo the setup for the tuner in media center. another problem with the softare change is you have to update the security components to be able to view certain channels.

you can find the best information for all these subjects at your computer manufacturers support website and of course microsoft for the security components. good luck, it should not be too difficult to solve your delemna with a little research and searching there.
