How do I determine if it a power failure or if it is a faulty SC board (TNPA5335)?

That does nost sound normal. I would take a look at the output of the power supply. Look at your electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. Do they look like the top of them has popped up? If so you can get replacement capacitor kits from

My lasko mod 2554 fan powers up but the fan will not work. The fan oscilates and the ionizer and timer lights all work.

It is possible that the main capacitor is faulty and so the coils is not enerrgised to start.
So check winding and check the capacitor for open.
Test capacitor by charging both the pins to mains voltage and shorting the pins to see if charge is retained. If retained the capacitor is good, if not replace.

How i check capacitors with multi meter

Ideally you want to check a capacitor with a proper capacitance meter although it can be possible to check them with a multimeter.

If the size of the capacitor is very small, say mircofarads you probably wont be able to test it, however we will give it a try.

Discharge the capacitor first by shorting out the pins. BE WARNED!! IF IT IS A LARGE CAPACITOR OR A CAMERA CAPACITOR DO NOT ATTEMP THIS!! Capacitors can be very dangerous if handled incorrectly.

Find the polarity of the capacitor, there should be a black stripe that runs up the side of the capacitor with a negative sign in it, the leg that is closest to that is the negative.

Set your multimeter to resistance, 10k-1M ohm. Put the probes on the legs of the capacitor and instantly watch the display. The multimeter should show close to 0 ohms and then start increasing slowly. This is because the battery in the multimeter is actually charging the capacitor through the test probes.

If the capacitor shows this pattern then you are pretty much assured that it is working properly.

I must say again though, please be careful around capacitors as they can be very dangerous.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

You need to replace it with a matching 3 pole capacitor. Look at the rating on your old capacitor, on a 3 pole it should read (ie): 5/35 mfd. This is a split type capacitor and usually controls 2 motors. There are a wide varety of capacitors. Also, one of the terminals will be a common terminal, so be sure to put it back together correctly.

This is the main PCB diagram of the indoor unit of LG LS-K1830 model.526bf5a.jpg

  • Check the shown capacitor. Lift one leg then connect the test leads of the ohmmeter to the capacitor terminals. Do the same with the test leads in reverse. The pointer should deflect quickly to the right then slowly deflect back to the left on both instances. Otherwise the capacitor is bad and must be replaced with the same specifications.
  • If the capacitor is good or the problem still exist after the capacitor is replaced, check the voltage between the 2 inner terminals of the motor harness 4-pin connector as shown above. Voltage should read about 5 volts. If voltage is below 5V or not present, replace the indoor unit main board assembly.
  • Check the voltage between the labeled terminals of the 5-pin connector shown above. The voltage should be about 17 volts. If voltages is below 17 volts or not present, check the connection between the indoor and outdoor unit main boards. If connection is good, replace the outdoor unit main board.

Fan works compressor doesn't overload protector keeps clicking 3 pins on compressor all tested short on rx1 tested no grd

Test or replace the run capacitor first. Then add a hard-start capacitor based on the motor size/hp. When checking pins on compressor remove all wires and test to chassis ground since this should be open circuit. Resistance between pins should be in the range of normal start and run windings, not less than 20 ohms on the start windings.

My VP930B monitor screen is so distorted that you can barely see what is there. Once in a great while the picture will suddenly be perfect! The monitor and tower both have a DVI-i dual connectors , but my...

Could be. You can try using the VGA port just for a test. Connect it to a friends computer or a laptop. also, there is the following solution for unusual problems on the VP930B:

It is caused by bad capacitors in the power supply circuit.

Open the monitor, and look at the power board. There are six capacitors. Replace the 220uF @ 25V and the 1000uF @ 16V capacitors. I would recommend replacing them with 35V and 25V capacitors respectively.

If the serial number on your monitor starts with Q8H you could also have a bad IC on the main board. Q8 on the main board is an FET in an IC package. If this problem persists solder a wire from the right side to the left side. There is one pin that turns the IC on and off. All the other pins (per side) are soldered together. Do not solder the pin on the left side that is by itself. Just leave it. Solder ALL the other pins on the left to ALL the other pins on the right.

Remember, do this ONLY if the problem persists after replacing the capacitors AND if your serial number starts with Q8H.

Computer does not turn on

you can try your power supply if it works by jumpering its pin. try to insert copper wire in pin 11 and connect it to pin 12. and turn o your power supply. But if it won't works then used tester and test its circuit boards particularly  is capacitors, resistors and even the transformer inside the power supply. Or if you can't make it then you can call a technician either in computer or electrical to test your power supply if it still working or not. In that wy can be sure in making decision if its really your power supply got problem or not.
