Although this is a tough thing to pin down, you should certainly assume that its a software problem first. Having mentioned that you had a virus, the likelihood of another "bug" still residing there is real. Its not uncommon to have to use several differ nt AV tools to get rid of many malicious wares.
First: try the free AV SCanners. I like www.filehippo.com as they have the free downloads of several. AVG is good, as well as Kaspersky and NOD32. all are free to try.
NOTE: only run one version at a time. dont install a new one until you remove the old AV software first and reboot. multiple AV software can conflict. Also, once you install these items, try running the full system scans while in Safe Mode (you get to safe mode by pressing F8 during boot) Many bugs are only removable in safe mode.
Next if you feel its not software, try using Dells Diagnostic tool. When you first turn the machine on press the F12 key immediately. Run the Diagnostics utility. it will scan everything and stress test the memory and components. if it fails then, you will get a error code you can report to Dell for service. This utility may take an hour or more to run!
