Hello jjoana,

My shop charges the labor fee of $60.00 per hour and fraction of an hour. So a 1 hour 1 min job is charged as 2 hours. This is just the cost of labor. $60.00 is an average I took from 10 sampling of TV repair shops when I was developing my pricing scheme . I hope this gives you an idea of the labor charges, There maybe other fees attached, or depending on the shop the cost could be higher or lower.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Shuttle83

The parts store only sells generic parts.
The set was not built with generic parts.

Their is no more you can do.
You need a professional.
Stop using the TV until it is repaired.
Continue to use the TV and your problems WILL multiply.
Call the manufacturer to find you nearest authorized service center.

Please give is a good rating.

We have just got Toshiba projection tv tw40x81 from a friend and the colors are not sharp and pinky looking. Why is that? How to fix that?

That sounds like it could be a color wheel. The color wheel controls the color on your picture since the DMD chip only creates a gray scale picture. You'll need to do a little more trouble shooting. Color wheels can cost around $100. They can be replaced on your own, but it's kind of a pain to get to.

The color wheel on this set is not available. First thing I would do is replace the lamp. MCM electronics has a Philips for $99.00. The hum could have been the lamp fan which is common on these sets. There is a kit from Hitachi the includes some rubber dampers. What I commonly see on these sets is when the lighr engine is going bad(this is where the color wheel is) the color gets a green, bue or yellow tint and trhe picture may get dim. its rare that the color wheel stops working on this model. Call adifferent tech for sevice. Anyone with experience on these sets will know whats up.

TR,
A color wheel is not so difficult to put in - it's dismantling the unit to get to the color wheel.. While $500 seems to me a little bit high for your area it might have been about average and $127 for labor is probably a pretty good deal if he did this as an in-home repair figuring his time installing the new lamp into the housing and the housing into the unit, plus travel time to and from the shop.
The noise you're experiencing could be the fan and not the color wheel.. Easiest way to tell is take the back off and as the set is turned off unplug the flat ribbon cable going to the color wheel. If the noise quits immediately it's color wheel if not guess what - it's the cooling fan...
A shop would be the only I would know to advise you to have this repaired - I'm a CET myself and it's a pretty difficult task taking one of those DLP format projectors apart. And I've been at this more than twenty years. But you can test whether or not that's your problem and go from there.. If you have to have the color wheel replaced have the tech look into having it rebuilt and see if Tri-State Module services that wheel.
A good way to research techs in your area is with NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealers Association) here's a link:

Hope this helps!
