Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Have a Toshiba x200/x205 lap top with build in Chicony USB 2.0 Camera. Downloaded Skype and says its not supported. Webcam say's being used by another program. Help Please Thanks. Luci

Skype is very picky about webcam drivers -you will have to go to the Toshiba support website to download the latest driver.

Webcam software can remained hooked up to a previous program even if you exit that program correctly. Prior to launching Skype re-boot the webcam software by restarting your computer or disabling / enabling your webcam in The Device Manager.
Expand the 'imaging' folder and right click on the text of your webcam to access the menu

Some of my friends are on webcams driven by logitech and some on skype - can my logitech driven webcam access the skype friends?

Yes - no problem - you will have to download Skype - whenever you want to use a webcam in a new program you have to configure the webcam software to the chat program software

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

working OK ?

CONFIGURE TO SKYPE
Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.

My webcam doesnt work with skype

Check you have the latest driver - faults likes this are usually patched until a new driver is issued
Access Device Manager from the Control Panel and expand the Imaging folder.
Right click on your webcam text and update driver - select internet when prompted.
If you have the latest driver - check the Creative website and Skype for any forums that show similar problems

Sounds like your classic driver problem. Look in Device Manager and find your webcam. Right click on it an update driver/reinstall driver.
