Noritz tankless water heater not producing hot water
I have had a Noritz N-069m tankless water heater for the last 3 years. When I turned on my hot water today, I noticed that it was just trickling out of the faucet. I checked the hot water heater and it is blinking error code 16. Any idea what this error code indicates? Their customer service is not open and I would rather not wait a day or two to find out what the issue is.
Re: Noritz tankless water heater not producing hot water
I called Noritz error code 16 is a overheat problem. Noritz say's to flush your coil with vinegar or CLR.
Use a small pump to recirculate the CLR or vinegar through the system for 45 minutes and flush with fresh water. This worked for me.

EC 71 usually means you are using a battery backup that doesn't produce a pure sine wave. OR you recently had a power outage and it shorted the circuit board. if you have a battery backup try unplugging that and see if it works okay. If not, just call Noritz for a replacement c/b.
I feel your pain. I am experiencing the same issue which started about 3 weeks ago. First it happened twice that first week and we discounted it. Now that my heater has been flushed the same issue is occuring. I called Noritz 3-4 times now and they are saying that I may have high manifold pressure and should have that checked.
F76 is a communication error. It usually occurs if you connect or disconnect a quick connect cable or remote control when the tankless heater is connected to electricity. (If you have a quick connect system, make sure you only have 1 remote and 1 quick connect cable.) To get rid of the code, try disconnecting electricity for 20 seconds, reconnecting electricity, and turning the remote on. If the code returns, you may need to replace your quick connect cable, remote cable, or even remote control
Try flowing more hot water with your shower. During the summer you end up mixing alot of cold water and very little hot water (because your cold ground water isn't so cold in the summer). When you get close the minimum flow rate of the appliance, it will start to short cycle (fire on and off). Here's some recommended things you can do:
1) Clean the shower head - remove scale deposits and or clogging 2) Widden flow restrictor - most shower heads have a flow restrictor on the back of the showerhead; It consists of a rubber washer with a hole in the center. You can widen the hole using a drill bit. 3) remove the flow restrictor - this should be a last resort
you probably had debris get into the filter or flow sensor when the water was turned back on. I'd recommend checking the filter first and if that doesn't work, call Noritz Tech support to help you with the flow sensor.
the filter is a black plug located on the cold water line (labeled cold on the bottom of the unit). It points torwards the left.
It sounds like your GFI is tripping. There are two common reasons for this to happen 1) plugged into another GFI 2) moisture on the gfi. I'd look for evidence of a water leak which is tripping your gfi. Look for puddles, water spotting, water hardness, etc.
If the unit is functioning properly, then you need to contact your utility company to see about upgrading the size of the gas line and meter to your house, and possibly the lines IN th house. It may be cheaper to go back to a tank type water heater despite the potential energy savings with a tankless.
Check your water pressure and the diagnostic codes on the controller to see if there is computer failure or another problem with the unit. send me an e mail i might be able to help im a nortiz certified service tech email@example.com
