Question about Garden

Open Question

I have a Troy-bilt tiller/cultivator model number 12097. The stopped turning. When I took the transmision apart I found that the top bearing on the worm shaft fell apart. I ordered a new bearing (part no. 1983637). Well when I received it, the I.D. W is 3/8" the worm shaft is 1/2". I located 2 more sites that sells parts and they both carry the bearing with the same part number. I noticed that on the worm shaft it has a groove around it. My question, does the new bearing have to be pressed on? And if so does the center collar of the bearing come out? It didn't find anything that lookes like that collar inside the transmision when I opened it up. Thanks, Walt

SOURCE: where do i find serial numbers on troy bilt horse tillers

On the old Gardenways Horse the serial number is stamped into the top of a little flange on the side of the transmission just to the right (viewed from behind) of where the handles attach. It may be covered in gunk so a douse of mineral spirits and a little scraping will reveal it.

You can download the manual and parts list from the Troybuilt site. Enter "HORSE" for the model and the serial number.

Tilller will not run

Get the model # and serial # off of the sticker. Got to the Troy Bilt site and use the owners manual link. Need to leave off the last 3 numbers of the model #.

If that site does not have the manual, I've found them on the MTD site. I enter only the first 2 numbers of the model # and then hunt for my manual from the list.

If all else fails, you can call Troy Bilt at their # provided on the site.

Hope this helps.
