SOURCE: Humax 5400 satellite receiver ,power suppl problem

Dear Robert...

I think the problem with my humax 5400z is similar to yours.

Both 5400 & 5400z have the same power supply unit.

I just solved it this evening by changing C9.

It's a 1500 μF 10V electrolytic capacitor. Be careful not to reverse the polarity my friend.

If you have problems to find the capacitor just e-mail me at rel@link.net and I'll send you pics showing the location of that C9 capacitor on tthe psu board.

Hope this could help you.

Good luck.

I cannot get components to work through sony str-dh540.

two things come to mind
- Low input voltage
- Power supply issues

Low Power
As multiple items are having issues the issue sounds that a wiring issues. Have you tried another receptacle (plug) perhaps another room Try plugging only a light to the plug. Does it flicker or appear dim. A multi meter to check line level and a polarity tester to check that wiring is correct. A good power bar will have a polarity tester built in.

Power Supply.
When you must turn on and off a device before it starts working suggests that components have partially failed. Bad capacitors can exhibit this type of issue.

It is possible that a power issue is damaging your hardware. It is always best to use a good power bar. Passive bar are good for a few years. Active should work well for many years. Balance the cost of a power bar to the value of your equipment.

We have a satellite and wish to connect 1 Sky TV and 3 Freeview receivers. We have installed a 4 way splitter but it will only take 1 sky and 1 freeview. As soon as we plug in another freeview, the power...

No the 2 receiver must be set. The supply going to LNB must switched off letting only one Freeview receiver supply to LNB is "ON". Meaning the one that give supply to LNB is the master receiver if you sw. it OFF the remaining2 can't receive programme.

Trying to find out what my tvs settings should be on to hook up m

Have you tried channel 3 or the video input channels.
The Tv only needs the one channel that the signal from the box is sent on.
All the viewing channels will be changed through the satellite box.

Sirius question

Yes it should be very easy with use of the ear phone jack - depending on the model of course but generally all you need is an ac/dc power supply, the antenna connection, and for connection to receiver you can connect via FM or hard wire.
FM: as in your car pick an FM station frequency that is clear (no station on it) lets say 88.1 then set your home receiver on 88.1 and there you have it.
DIRECT: purchase a stereo 3.5mm headphone cable with two RCA male plugs at the other end. A faily common cable found in dollar stores or for five times the price at Walmart/Radio Shack etc.. Plug the 3.5mm plug into the 'headpone' jack of the satellite radio and the RCA plugs into the rear of your home receiver - usually a 'aux/line in plug" or "tape in" plug then turn the knob on the receiver to "aux or tape" selector. Bingo you should hear satellite radio all over the house....if the volume is UP! Take care Frank

Searching for Satellite

The voltage is supplied by the power-supply through the RF/IF interface usually encased in a metal box on its own. Also without knowing the model number of your unit I cant help any further.
