Question about Televison & Video

No picture and sound on t.v. all of a sudden

My TV is connected to a DVD player. It has been working pretty much o.k. until recently. I turned on the DVD player and TV and for a moment the DVD menu appeared. But, then it dissapeared and I haven't been able to get anything, but a dark gray screen ever since. I did not change anything on the DVD player or TV. Both items stay turned on, but there is just the gray screen.

Hello Thomas,

I apologize that you are having issues. Normally, when this sort of problem happens, it is the cord connected from the DVD player to the TV. I suggest getting a replacement cord. How can you tell what type of cord this is? If the cord is seperated into yellow, white, and red ends, then this type of cord should be replaced. If it is a coaxial cable, like the one used to carry cable to a TV, then this type of cord should be replaced. If the cord has pins on the end, like a mouse, the S-Video cord should be replaced.

TV no longer power's on. What problem is causing this condition?

If the TV AND the DVD player are not powering on, then it sounds like the problem is at the receptacle or power strip, where the TV and the DVD player are plugged in. Make sure the receptacle or power strip is working. Plug something else in, a lamp, a radio, anything, and see if it works. If it doesn't then the power strip is off or not working or the wall receptacle is not working.

I am having issues with my RCA Scenium D52W135D (playstation 3 connection). Recently, I have been having a very specific problem with this combo. I have it connected using HDMI to a Pioneer receiver...

Had the same problem. With mine the other day you probably moved your Playstation 3 too another tv and set your 1080i,720,480 to high deaf on settings in Playstation. You have to change them back to automatic that TV says HDTV but it only plays Playstation 3 on 480 checked in settings of Playstation. Played mine for 4 years on that TV moved and got a 3d wifi then dad got him one And was going to trash that RCA but I told him I would take it for now too keep from buying another TV at this time got it in my new home wouldn't play video but it. would sound tried different cables but still now change. But remembered i changed all of my settings over when I got 3D TV. Playstation 3 hadn't been on know other TV. Since I owned it but that RCA now won't work then came to me last night and playing it on both TVs but you have to change the settings on it before moving it or you cant see the screen to fix it do that guarantee it will fix it. Like you said everything else works PS 1,PS 2,DVD, cable, but PS 3 won't its the settings in theme, and audio.

I have a 1994 zennith TV/VCR COMBO I am trying to connect a dvd player to. I have one yellow video cord and one double stranded audio red/white cord. I can not get a picture. Vcr player does still work.

Connect yellow from DVD to TV. Connect white and red cables from DVD to TV. Yellow to yellow, white to white etc. Then select on the TV using the remote, the proper input (where the DVD is connected) Press PLAY on the DVD player.

Means the TV is foobar. How do you connect it? TV Aerial, cable, RCA, SCART, S-Video, Composite, HDMA. Checked your cables, made sure they are all snug? Made sure your source (eg DVD player) is OK?

DVD PLAYS GREAT, TV AND VCR PLAY IN BLK-WHT W/NO SOUND

You have your DVD connected to your VCR, which is then connected to your TV, right? The problem is Macrovision. It's designed to prevent you from connecting your DVD player to your VCR, so that you can't make duplicates of copyrighted movies. It's a real pain in the neck. Try turning the DVD player off - or better yet, unplugging its power cord (as some DVD players are always in a standby mode, even when turned off). If that fixes the problem, then you need to reconnect your DVD player directly to the TV, not wired through the VCR. If your DVD player isn't wired through the VCR, are you using some kind of wire splitter (one cable branches into two) to connect both the DVD player and VCR? That can also cause this kind of interference, if both have power at the same time. There are video switches you can get to work around that. Here's one such switch (first I found for a decent price with a google search): http://www.pickeasy.com/20070827-video-selector-switch-video-game-p-555.html Hope that helps.
