2 WIRE is a company that makes routers, Telus uses them to hook up television and internet.They don't appear to be any different unless you consider the fact that the ADSL modem and the router are combined into a single unit. All routers have a gateway IP, but its likely that a "gateway router" by definition may be just a router/modem combo, just a guess.

I have a ZSR4174WE router. The default IP address (192.168.2.1) doesn't work (nor does XXX.1.1). Is there someway to ping the router to get the IP address so I can set it up? I don't want to...

If you're connected to the router, you can find the default IP (called a default gateway) by doing the following:

In Windows: Go to Start>Run... type "cmd" (without quotes) and hit enter
type "ipconfig /all" (again without quotes)
Look for default gateway in your wired/wireless connection (depending on how your connected, could be LAN, WLAN, etc. Might be the only one with IP address). The default gateway is the IP of your router.

In Mac/Unix/Linux: Open a terminal and type "ifconfig" (without quotes), and look for default gateway there.

We had to have at&t reconnect our dsl service. we had disconnected the Linlsys now we can't get it to work.Help please

Turn the DSL modem off.

Turn the Linksys router off.

Turn your computer off.

Check that all the cables are correct & are connected:
* 2-wire or 4-wire cable between telephone wall-port and DSL modem;
* 8-wire cable between DSL modem and the WAN (or 'Internet') port on the router;
* 8-wire cable between one of the LAN ports on the router to the network-port on your computer.

Turn the DSL modem on, and wait until its blinking-lamps settles down to a repeating pattern.

Turn the router on, and wait until its blinking-lamps settles down to a repeating pattern.
Ensure that the lamp for the WAN connection is on.

Turn your computer on, and let it boot.
Ensure that the lamp for one of the LAN ports on the router lights up as the computer is starting.

After your computer has booted, your router should have assigned an IP-address to your computer.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
You should see an IP address like '192.168.xxx.yyy' for your computer,
and a similar IP-address for your "default gateway".
If you see an IP address like '169.254.xxx.yyy', then your computer has *NOT* obtained a *valid* IP-address.

Also, your router should have obtained an IP-address from your ISP (AT&T),
and you should have Internet access -- try to access 'www.CatsThatLookLikeHitler.com' (or any other web-site).

I connected a 100/10 switch behind the router. The link led (uplink) flickers and data transfert through switch in drastically reduced (by factor 150) Can I connect a switch behind the Dsl rputer ?

Hi,

1. Connect one end of your Ethernet cable to one of Four 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN Ports.

2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into one of the ports in the switch (try not to use the uplink port if it slows-down the connection)

Thanks

Setting up a wireless connection between my linlsys pcmcia card and my 2 wire gatway

first insert your pcmci linksys card into the laptop, you would find a found new hard ware screen, insert the setup disk, and then follow the steps, automatically your card would be installed, once the installation is done, the wireless adapter , would detect wireless signal, try connecting to the wireless network.. if it asks for any key, look at the bottom of your 2 wire router you would find a 10 digit number, enter the number as the number as key code or password, automatically you would get connected.. if case if you have any problem , revert back ..
