SOURCE: Tillia Foodsaver VAC 370 won't stop vaccuming to seal

My Foodsaver 820 wouldn't stop vacuuming, and after fiddling with it and doing a little research, I located the vacuum switch on the circuit board and de-soldered it (verry simple, only 2 solder points). On the underside of the switch it looks kind of like an allen head screw. NOTE before attempting this, make note of how far the screw is recessed into the housing and/or count how may turns it takes to remove it! I removed the screw and spring and sprayed electrical contact cleaner in the holes and in the hole where there is a little brass disc. (Wear safety goggles for this) The little brass disc is what makes the contacts that turn the pump off after reaching the necessary vacuum. Mine was gummed up and stuck so it would never make contact to shut off. I reassembled it, and re-soldered it back on the board. I then put the whole thing back together and it works like new.

You could probably make the same repair without removing the piece from the board since there is a hole in the circuit board where you can gain access to the screw, but it will be messy. If you have any experience with soldering, it is about as simple as it gets

SOURCE: my foodsaver vac 550 vacuum works but it doesn't

Check the altitude adjustment. Also, check for food debris in the intake hole, tube or path. Check for debris on the rubber seal around the sealing strip.

SOURCE: My Foodsaver Vac 1050 doesn't extract all of the air from the bag

Either the sealing strips are dirty letting air escape or the lips of the bag are turned upwards. Push the front of the bag down towards the bottm chanel and it should work fine. I have had one for eight years now and love it.Ken Vancouver BC

SOURCE: Tilia Food Saver Vac 420 sucks air but won't switch to seal mode

Thanks to Mikeytheeye!!!

I became frustrated and figured I had nothing to lose. I had no idea what a vacuum switch was, but I took it step by step and moved on. It happens to be the round brown piece that has the tube coming in on the board. You have to remove the six small screws to the board and flip it. I tried to remove the "star" screw without removing the switch from the board, couldn't do it (also, I only had a t25 star screw attachment that worked at first, but started to strip). You can turn the switch but it does not open. I waited until the morning to make a home depot run and got a t27 star attachment and a soldering kit (only $18). From there, you just touch the two points and the switch comes off. I also got the contact cleaner ($3) and let soak. After cleaning it out and letting it dry I put everything back together and nothing happened. I took everything apart again and I tightened the star screw down almost all the way. Put everything back together and presto - the sealer worked after the vacuum cycle. For the record, we have a Foodsaver v345 model. Thank you for all the help.

SOURCE: I have an older model Foodsaver. The machine will

This is likely happening because the unit cannot detect that a vacuum has formed, and the gaskets around the vacuum channel are the probable culprit. The Foodsaver gaskets will deform and/or dry out with time, just like in any device, but you don't necessarily have to replace them. I've tried this inexpensive solution on my own Foodsaver V2490, and it works perfectly.
Buy some food-grade silicone grease and apply it to both the upper and lower gaskets. I remove the gaskets and coat both sides with a thin layer of grease before replacing them in their respective channels. And since this grease will be absorbed and/or dry out with time, you will have to do this occasionally, so I also flip the gaskets (i.e. turn them over) whenever I apply the grease.
You can buy a 2 oz container of silicone grease at any dive store, or you can buy it over the Internet by searching for "Trident silicone grease".
This is a link where you can buy it for around $7.00:
Dolphin Dive Center
I do not work at this dive center, but I am a scuba diver and already had some grease that I use for the numerous rubber gaskets in my gear. The 2 oz. jar will last you several years, and you will find many other uses for it around the house since the grease will last longer than a spray.

Foodsaver V3840 Won't vacuum air out and wont go to seal. A label states the seals are not removable. Do you know how to fix?

you are not using a "good" bag. Make sure there are no holes and that the bottom and sides of the bag are properly sealed. It will run all day and not pull the air out if the seal is broken anywhere.

Foodsaver wont vacuum v3230

Make sure you put the bag in as it's designed to go in, I s**t you not I tried to use a wider foodsaver bag and cut it down but I inserted it the opposite way than it was intended to go in and it would NOT vacuum the air out. So I cut another bag to test if inserting it the correct way would matter....and it TOTALLY worked fine! Crazy how I couldn't get it to work the other way.

My Food Saver V3835 will not seal canisters. It seals bags AOK but there appears to be no vacuum generated through the extension tube. We have tried several different canisters and covers. I have also...

The negative pressure is very slight and almost not detectable when using canisters for food storage. Once the system is activated, and allowed to run until timed out, the canister should have pulled all the oxygen from the canister. Foodsaver only canisters are designed for the V3835 for vacuum sealing.

How to Vacuum Package Using Your FoodSaver® Vacuum
Packaging Canister
NOTE: FoodSaver® Vacuum Packaging Canisters can only be used with
a FoodSaver® appliance that has an Accessory Port. Please check your
QuickStart Guide to see if your appliance has one.
1. Place your FoodSaver® appliance on a fl at, dry surface and plug the power
cord into a standard electrical outlet.
2. Place the item(s) to be vacuum packaged inside the canister. Leave at least
one inch (1”) between the contents and the rim of the canister.
3. Wipe rim to ensure it is clean and dry.
4. Place the lid on top of the canister. If the canister has latches, put them
in an upright position so that the lid fi ts on the base. Push the latches
downward until they snap into place.
5. Insert one end of the Accessory Hose into the Accessory Port on your
FoodSaver® appliance.
6. Insert the other end of the Accessory Hose into the hole on the top of the
canister lid. Twist the gray tip of hose while inserting to ensure a tight fi t.
7. Follow the steps for vacuum packaging as outlined in your QuickStart
Guide.
8. Remove the Accessory Hose from the Accessory Port on the appliance
before vacuum packaging in FoodSaver® Bags.
Allow hot foods to cool to room temperature before vacuum packaging. Otherwise, the
contents may bubble up out of the canister.
How to Open the FoodSaver® Vacuum Packaging Canister
To open, press and hold down the gray rubber button in the center of the lid
until you no longer hear air escaping. This will release the vacuum and allow you
to easily remove the lid.

I have a foodsaver and it sucks the air out but won't seal. What do I do? We're trying to save some frozen fish and it just sucks and sucks but doesn't stop or seal. Any ideas?

The bag is wrinkled or the gaskets are leaky, it has to pull down to a set vacuum in order to shut off and heat the strip to seal the bag. For the right now dilemma try pressing down on the lid while it's vacuuming and start looking for gaskets at foodsaver.com

  • Assuming that the unit is plugged in and the plastic bag is in the proper position.........
  • Press firmly and equally on both sides of the cover (where the three raised ridges are on each side). The 2 micro switches that start the vacuum motor are located there and require firm pressure to operate properly.
