Question about Zenith Z46Z83D 46" Rear Projection Television

Screeching heard on powerup

Just been donated this RPTV not working obviously, no picture on powerup but definite high pitched screech coming from area next to internal power supply, just checking this is normal startup sounds at this stage, issue appears to be fuse related, though fuse passes multimeter testing power beyond current installed fuse fails multimeter test. possibly last owner installed incorrect fuse, any suggestions or possibility of schematic or service/repair manual or even a link that doesnt want me to pay for this info would be great for this model. Even better would be the ten step cheat sheet for diagnosing power failure would be fine at this stage thanks in advance.

T.V. won't work

Sounds like the Flyback or HV block if it was screeching. You can get the Flyback 259296 and the ITC222 HV block at the following link. They provide step by step instructions.

RCA HD61LPW42 - no picture

I haven't worked on an RCA DLP but have on Samsung DLP, based on your description it sounds like the color wheel is bad. Take the back off and turn on TV make sure its not a fan making the noise ,but most likely its the "wheel" it is inside the light engine probably right next to where the lamp is plugged in. If the whine comes from this area definitely the wheel.

My RCA is screeching

To install the color wheel, turn off and unplug the tv, take off the lower back casing (17 star type screws), remove the lamp door, remove the lower back casing. Look just left of the lamp you will see 3 smaller star type screws near a small circuit board (which is on the color wheel), remove those screws unplug cable from color wheel, unplug other end of 2nd cable from tv circuit board (just to the upper left nearest to the color wheel.

All you have to do is install the color wheel, plug in both cables, put the back on and place the lamp door back in its position, the lamp door pushes in a lillte blue lever which allows the lamp bulb to light up.

I'm in the process of doing the same myself on my RCA same model. Where did you buy the color wheel from?

You have a bad colorwheel in the light engine. Due to the complexity of the repair, I suggest you call a tech to check this out

High pitched sound

The high-pitched squeal is from the power supply, usually because of failure of the horizontal output transistor, flyback transformer, or both. Without a specific model I can't give more definite information about part numbers or likely costs. But repairs of this type usually have parts costs in the 10 to 75 dollar range (depending on just which parts are bad, and where replacements come from) plus whatever labor costs the repairer charges.
