Bit error rate ranging from zero to three may be the cause of the problem. Bit error rate is related to the level of noise in transmission and the way affects signal is represented by the value called SNR (signal to noise ration). Even if the BER minimum threshold is 10-6 (with 10-10 being the ideal transmission), a bit error of 3 on ten can cause the box responding with no signal.
If there is any device that can cause interference nearby, turn it off (Eg. big power supply, RF transmitter etc.)
If you are using an aerial DTV system, check aerial and wires and if a signal booster is present, check the signal booster, which is commonly causing the noise. Other reason for noise is a bad cable or connection.
If you are using cable DTV, then it is usually a short or a bad connection in one of the cables. Check connector and check wallplug.
If the cables (or aerial) are OK, then it can still be a defective DTV box.
Most of the time the problem is given by a wiring problem or by a defective device like a bad signal booster or DTV box.
In some case the problem may not depend on devices located in your household, but may be the result of a defective DTV local node.
Usually when you have problems of this kind, the best thing to do is contacting DTV. They will investigate to find out if there is a problem with the local node or other part of the infrastructure, then they will send a technician to check cables at your home or to replace DTV box.
