If no lights shown on drive, Check if power conncetor is rightly & securely connected to drive. try with other connector.

If still the problem persists, change the drive

in most PCs the MB and cables inside will have provision to add

2 HDDs
2 Drives (CD or DVD)
1 floppy drive(now it's obsolete)

in a SATA system the data cables inside will be aprox 1 inch wide and the MB will have 4 SATA slots to fix the cables....from 2 HDD and 2 Disk Drives....

That is the HDD light or the hard drive activity light. There must be something accessing your hard drive. Is there a problem with the PC like slow speed or booting?

Replacing power supply to hp pavillion a810n and don't know how to connect all the wires. we bought dynex 400 watt power supply.

The secret: all the wires are oriented (you cannot plug the in backward), and your replacement
power supply must have a connector for each of your peripherals.
Even the connector going to the motherboard is oriented.
Make sure everything on this list has a power connector plugged into it, then
power up the desktop system and compute.

1. motherboard
NOTE: everything below in the list resides in a peripheral bay
2. HDD (hard disk drive) (there may be several)
3. FDD (floppy disk drive)
4. CD-ROM
5. DVD-ROM

If you run out of connectors, buy a "Y-connector" at your local "Computer Goodies" store.
As you connect these devices try to utilize proper anti-statis techniques - meaning, if you don't have an anti-static strap to clip onto the Pavilion A810N frame, then be sure to ground yourself
by touching the frame with a forearm or something as you make/unmake the power connections,
while at the same time try to avoid touching the (CMOS-based) IC chips or PC board surfaces.
forearm
External drives (incl tape drives) get their own power - not from your 400W Dynex.
Your computer monitor will also gets its own power (from a 120VAC 3-prong CEE cord)

I have an HP a810n desktop. First let me say that I did a backup of my system back in 2/10. Up until a few days ago it ways sort of o.k. Now when I try to turn it on it comes up with an error,...

Hi There,.

I recommend you work your way through this guide before attempting file transfer.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/stop0x0000007b.htm

The best way to recover the data you want is to remove the drive, install it in an external enclosure and read the file from another computer, saving them to flash drive or another external storage drive.

Try to F8 it into safe mode and check the device manager for conflicts. It is probably a device driver issue. It is a matter of finding the problematic device and then working toward a solution.

Lost hard drive???? I'm guessing ya didnt misplace it, it just dont recognize the hard drive? If a hard drive is bad, a pc will not boot past level one diagnostics. Replace hard drive.

HP a810n will not boot up

On most HP's and Compaq's you can restore the machine by pressing F11 when you see the HP/Compaq screen when you first turn the machine on.
There is a hidden recovery partition on your harddrive and your machine will be restored to the condition it was in when you bought it, the only problem with that is it will delete any personal files you have on the machine like photo's and music.
If you want I can talk you through recovering your personal files before attempting the restore, it will involve removing your harddrive from your computer and linking it to another computer.
