I have 2 cobras 29 radio always worked good till recently. Have a rk56 mic I can hear but can't talk. Mic keys up but they hear nothing bought a new 29 chrome digital read out and a new mic just a wood...

fiberglass,no ground plane. Did you use the meters on the radios to match your antennas or a seperate external might have to run your own coax and hook up a mirror mount bracket and put your favorite antennas on them then match them and ground them to the chassis use common sense to show you what to do next and you should be getting out great. Sometimes people change the antennas on those trucks with built in antennas and don't realize that the coax has just fallen out of site into the body somewhere. thats why I said install your own.

Why wont my digital tv work now?

External antenna is not adequate. Need more and bigger antennas for digital TVs. Also, several BAD problems with digital TVs - including weaker signal, picky signal, inability to use in a moving vehicle (kids can no longer watch TV while moving from place to place). More expensive receivers, not normally useable in remote places (like you could with analogue).

Rarely, two or 3 antennas on a vehicle will allow for some reception in a slow-moving vehicle - otherwise, portable digital TVs are useless.

I replaced a standard antenna with an electric antenna in a 199 Ford Contour. All the mounting brackets were there, but the wiring harness was not. I need to know how to wire the electric antenna (wire...

If it is a three wire electric antenna. The Ground wire is usually black. To find out which is the trigger wire simply connect the black wire to ground and then power one of the other wires, if you here the clicking of the relay you know this one is the trigger wire and the other wire is the power wire.

Missing wifi antenna

You cannot actually get a replacement as such, however you can get antennas called Range Boosters, Extenders from, say Radio Shack, or the like. They screw on.

Antennas Uniden Bearcat BC148XLT

Height and placement of the antenna determines range. Also, check to see you have the antenna perpendicular to the ground (straight up), and place the antenna where it has 19" clear around it. (not up against a wall or other obstruction)

Placing the existing antenna higher, or replacing it with an external antenna would give you more range. A simple test before purchasing a new connector, coax and antenna for the scanner, would be to place the scanner where you think you would place an antenna and see if it gives you the range you desire.

External antennas are available from most any radio shop. (They would need to know what type of connector you need to connect the coax to the back of the unit.)

Antenna for my HDTV

Special HD or Digital antennas are not required to receive digital stations. A good VHF/UHF antenna should work. Try an amplified antenna for the best reception. Most antennas have a coax type connector which should connect to the ant. in jack on the back of your DirectTV box or to your tv depending how the box is connected to your tv.

Thanks for the assistance

Hi again richos,

The outside area of the antenna plug would definitely touch the body of the CD/Tuner as it is the ground where the shielding of the cable is soldered to. I was referring to the central point where the active wire is soldered to and is connected to the exposed antenna element.

Another possibility to consider is the orientation/location of the vehicle/antenna (though unlikely).

As to the FM, it would still work (even if shorted) since it operates on MHz (unlike AM in KHz). Some antennas for FM (exclusively) even have a balun (coil) matching which is shorted when tested for continuity.

Have you tried the insulated wire?

Will antenna help?

What is your car brand & model?

I ask, because some vehicles use a thinfilm windshield heater for defrosting/de-icing. This file is conductive, and will act as a shield to the RF microwave signals that GPS operates on. Consulting the owners manual, or the car dealer could help determine if this is your case.

Please try the unit outside the vehicle (in the same location as you have troubles) and see if the issue resolves itself. If so, then yes, using an external antenna can resolve the issue, but it will need to be located in a place not covered by that same problem.

All GARMIN external antennas are waterproof and have a very thin cable, so it could be located outside the vehicle. Alternatively, a side-window mount for the antenna could be used, if that's a viable solution in your application.

The "less-expensive" antennas mentioned can work, most will, but you may not get the optimal performance as one designed specifically for the GARMIN units. Personally, I've used an afermarket one and had good results, but the GARMIN ones always seem better.
