Well connect coax digital out to coax digital out or optical to optical.

How do you connect a Nakamichi surround sound system to my Phillips tv model 42PF7220A/37

I'm confused. The message header shows a problem with a Yamaha RX-V995 receiver.

As for connecting a Nakamichi (or any surround system) to a TV - the only connection would be the Monitor output (video connection) to an appropriate video input of your TV.

If it is a Nakamichi, it is a little older and probly predates the invention of HDMI cables. My guess is you will either use the S video output or Composite video output to the TV's input with similar connections.

This allows you to route whatever video sources you have connected to the Nakamichi to the TV.

I have an (obviously) ancient but still reliable rx-v990 with the ddp 1. I would like to use it as part of a consolidated set-up with a samsung 550. any recommendations on making this work?

What's a Samsung 550 (no letters)?

The DDP1 is a Digitasl Processor, no amp.

The RX-V990 is an AVR receiver.

What role do you want each of these pieces to play?

The Front channel amps of the RX-V990 could be slaved to the DDP1 (or any other volume-controlled Line level source) by simply removing the jumpers in the RX's Front Pre Out/Main In and driving the Main In.

I have hooked up my dish, yamaha receiver, CD player, blueray player and have surround sound for everything but the TV, Help!

Usually, unless the TV show is being broadcast itself in surround sound, the surround decoder in the receiver will default to front only sound on TV shows. When a TV show says that it is in surround sound, the receiver will decode it. I think the Law and Order series in broadcast in surround.
Hope this helps,
Best, Mark

How do I connect my Yamaha RX-V463 surround sound system to an analog tv? The tv only has the three RCA jacks for audio and video. the RX-V463 has many jacks, and the manual is no help. the manual does...

Actually, the Quick Start Guide on page 6 of the manual shows the TV connection.

Consider that the TV is simply a visual element in your entertainment system and the rest will sound easy.

Run a single RCA cable from the receiver to the TV's Video IN so you can use its menus and view whatever video comes into the receiver.

Manage whatever audio you want to hear in HI-FI directly from its source to the receiver and NOT washed through the inferior audio electronics and speakers of the TV.

TV/DVD surround sound through receiver

Try running digital audio from the source - cable/sat - to the receiver. The fewer intervening connections and entities, the better. TV's are NOT considered sound sources for high end purposes or we wouldn't have Yamaha HTR-5860's and better speakers, would we?

How to get surround sound?

Hi, I would recommend using an optical cable from your Sky box to your surround system. The should look like this:

this sounds strange, but is true. you need to run your digital audio optical cable from your tv to your receiver (after, of course, connecting tv/receiver via hdmi). so, hdmi from blue ray to rec - hdmi from rec to tv - then optical from tv back to rec. it's round about, but that is how yamaha says (and the only way it works) to do it.

I have a RX-V461 AV Receiver for my Samsung HDTV.

Hi,
I don't have manual here, but try to go to Setup menu / Speaker setup / Manual Setup / Config and check if rear speakers are NOT set to None.
