Two ways to get CC, if using a cable or sat box it should have this feature----in the menu for the TV there should be a item for captions---once you select it try CC1 which is the most common one of cc1-cc4-----if on the wrong one no cc.

If you find that menu and get it working many sets there have a setting so the captions will only appear if the sound is muted and not all the time----look for that one also.

Ok i posted a question in regard to a black box appearing on my screen. Ive been through the subtitle section its off i cant for the life of me find the section for cc. I looked in menu but no luck

Closed captioning (CC) usually is enabled/disabled as part of the initial set up routine. Once enabled, CC text is displayed whenever normal TV audio is turned off, e.g., by pressing the MUTE button on the remote.

Can I turn the caption mode off with the remote?

CC (Closed Caption)

To select the options in the CC sub-menu, press the MENU button or the #

button. A new menu will be displayed showing the following CC settings:

CC

The CC feature is available when watching regular analog (NTSC) TV.

Select from CC1, CC2, CC3 or CC4. Closed Caption for regular TV is

usually CC1 or CC2.

Digital CC Style

The Digital CC Style feature is available when watching digital TV.

Select either As Broadcaster or Custom. If Custom is selected then
you can customize the way Closed Caption is displayed.

How can I remove the closed captioning from my TV

You can set the CC on or off from the MENU - SETUP (use your remote, after you turn on the TV )
Then select Closed Caption (using your up / down arrow)
And then select Digital / Analog CC mode ... press OK
Then, (using the left / right arrow button) set it to OFF

Hi, I sent an earlier e-mail. Not sure it got through so repeating. Thanks. I am hearing impaired. My cat stepped on the remote and for some reason I can't get the closed captioning to work. Do you...

I would be surprised if the cat stepping on the remote control had anything to do with your problem unless the cat somehow managed to turn on "CC when mute" with the right combination of buttons (more on this below).

This procedure for setting closed caption is from the owner's manual. (p. xx is the Adobe Reader page # for the PDF version of the manual.) CC is not available for the YPbPr, VGA or DVI inputs:
  1. With the set on, press the Menu button. (p. 20)
  2. Use Ch +/- to select the Setup item. Press <Enter> to go into Setup. (p. 20)
  3. Use Ch +/- to select CC On/Off. The current status of CC should be displayed at the bottom of the CC setup window. If it is off, press <Enter> to turn it on. (p. 36, p. 20)
  4. Use Ch +/- to go to the CC Mode. The current mode should be displayed at the bottom of the CC setup window. Use Vol +/- to step through the modes. When you have the one you want, press <Enter> to confirm the selection. (p. 36, p. 20)
  5. When you have the settings you want, press Menu again to escape the sub-menu.
Note: the "CC when mute" turns on CC only when Mute is on. Check this CC menu item to see if it is on. It may override the CC On/Off if it was chosen after CC was turned on.

One last VERY IMPORTANT ITEM: The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Best Buy announced a recall on the IS-LCDTV26 models sold by Best Buy. Apparently there is a risk the power supply can overheat to the point of being a fire and burn hazard. The announcement, dated April 2, 2009, says to return the set to Best Buy to get a gift card for the value of a replacement TV. I don't know if the recall affects sets sold by other retailers. If this set is under recall, it is illegal to resell it. It is possible that you have a different version of the power supply and that's why you haven't had any problems so far, but you should check this out.

Cannot turn CC ON/OFF via remotes

Try this combination.

1) Start with the cable box turned on and TV on tuned to the cable box.

2) Press the POWER button for the cable box and then quickly press the MENU button.

3) This should bring up the user setting menu. Use the arrow keys on remote to go to Closed Caption and press right arrow button this should bring up the closed caption menu.

4) Press the OK button and this should either turn CC on or off.

5) Once Closed Caption is turned off press LEFT ARROW button to return to User Settings Menu.

6) Press the POWER button to turn the Cable box back on and the Closed Caption should be gone....

Good Luck.....

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.
