SOURCE: How to replace heating element Maytag Performa

Your model number indicates a gas dryer. It does not have a heating element. It has a glowbar igniter,a flame sensor and a gas valve. Either the glowbar igniter is bad or the flame sensor or the gas valve coils or the thermal fuse.

SOURCE: maytag neptune (gas dryer) just stopped heating

Gas dryers utilize a gas valve, ignitor assembly, and a series of coils mounted on the gas valve to provide heat and safety. The gas valve coils are the usual suspect when it comes to a "No Heat" complaint. I have provided a checklist from www.repairclinic.com, for your convenience. They also provide disassembnly diagrams and repair parts.

Firstly, ascertain that you have made an adequate "Heat" selection, then read on:

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.

If your dryer doesn't heat, check these:

Igniter
Gas valve coils
Thermal fuse
Igniter Modern gas dryers use an electric igniter to ignite the gas from the gas valve. When it's working properly, the igniter glows bright orange. When it burns out, the dryer tumbles but there's no heat because the gas can't ignite. When the igniter burns out, you need to replace it. If the igniter is held by a tension bracket, you very well may need to replace the bracket too.

The igniter is inside the dryer housing, near the bottom front, usually in a cone-shaped metal tube (the force cone). It's about 2 inches long. It's mounted to the far end of the burner tube, and it has two wires attached to it--or to the tension bracket, if there is one.

Gas valve coils Watch the igniter. Does it glow bright orange, then shut off without igniting the gas? (When the gas ignites there's a large blue flame.) If so, there may be defective coils on the gas valve. Mounted on the top of modern gas valves, there are black electrical coils. The coils, when energized, open the gas valve. If one or more of the coils are defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to replace both (all) of them at the same time.

Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing.

If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse to put the dryer back into operation. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)

Dryer runs but does not heat up

The heat element may need replacing. They burn out once in a while. Check all fuses as well and if you have it apart make sure all wires are plugged together where they are suppose to be. We had a wire that pulled apart and the repair man came and five minutes later he left with me paying a bill.

Why won't my epic z dryer model # MEDZ600TWZ tumble but not heat up?

You MIGHT NOT need a heating element. I just repaired my daughters dryer and all it needed was a thermostat that controls excessive heat in the heating chamber. I went to repairclinic.com, entered the model # and they had several suggestions of places to look which INCLUDED the heating elements. Dryers are pretty easy to disassemble and if you use your gray matter, you won't have any trouble with reassembly. Once you have it opened up, excercising ordinary care where electric safety is concerned, turn it on so you can see if the heating elements are glowing at all or not. You will need one more digit of your Model # to enter it into repairclinic.com. They're lookinjg for a "1" or a "2" suffix. Then you can review the available parts and perhaps make an informed decision on what you need to order . . .IF, it's too rich for your blood on that site, get your manufacturer part and try ebay. There's a little "potluck" there though about the fit and quality of the component you'll buy sometimes. Hope this helps some.

Unplug dryer. Remove heater element, and inspect element for damage. Use an ohm meter to check for continuity. Should have some resistance. Should not be open or short.

Maytag EPIC dryer runs but does not get warm and therefore the clothes do not dry.

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
It normally takes about 45 minutes for a dryer to dry a full load. If your dryer is taking more than an hour, check these.
Vent Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance. Heating element Your dryer's heating element may be partially burned out. If it is, your dryer still heats, but at such a low temperature that it takes three or four times as long to dry the clothes. If the element is partially burned out, replace it. To determine if the heating element is burned out, watch the part testing video at the bottom of this page. Internal ductwork Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum, contact a qualified appliance repair technician. Cycling thermostat Although this isn't a common problem, one of the thermostats that controls the temperature in your dryer may break and cause the dryer to heat poorly. If so, you need to replace it. The thermostat is usually a small, round, black device mounted to an oblong steel plate. The plate is mounted to the internal ductwork with two screws.

I have a Maytag Epic Z. The dryer turns on but with no heat

There are several things that can cause this. 1 st the thermal fuse(white plastic piece with 2 wires attached to it, then the igniter, is it glowing orange when you start the dryer, then the flame sensor located on the side of the burner assembly and finally the gas coils located on the gas valve close to the burner assembly. If the igniter is glowing orange and then going out without ignition change the gas coils, Hope this helps,

I have an Maytag model # MAEDZ600TW2 Epic Z Electric dryer , the drum turns but no heat , circut breakers were checked , lint screen is clean , btw , date of purchase was 3/23/09

There are 2 common reasons your dryer will not heat.
1. Your limit switch is out on the dryer not allowing the heating element to switch on.
2. Your heating element is out.

before you try to fix this yourself it should be covered by warranty.
