Make sure your computers RAM modules are securely seated with no dust in the sockets also the Cmos battery has charge and seated with no dust in the sockets

Check all power and data leads from motherboard to hard drive and all of your cd/dvd drives make sure connections are secure dust free and not faulty

computers need all power and data to travel through every working device and to finish its cycle

so any faulty lead will end in computer error or shutdown / fail to boot or to reboot on a cycle

some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

might be getting hot check your CPU make sure it has a thermal paste and a dust free and secure seating

hope this helps

SOURCE: Failure to boot

In these cases, I'd strongly recommend checking the RAM to ensure that isn't the problem. If the RAM is fine, then the issue is likely with the laptops motherboard. In which case, it would need to be sent back to the manufacterer.

SOURCE: just black screen with a small white dot up left

Windows Start-up Errors
Step one, you need a Windows XP CD. If you only have a recovery disk set like the ones from HP or Compaq they will not do what you need done. Under normal circumstances however, you can use a Dell disk because the Operating system is on a stand-alone disk. All retail versions are also acceptable as well as upgrade disks. For a rule of thumb, if the disk has the Microsoft hologram it should work. You can order a boot up floppy disk from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 with this file, if you know how, you can use “ImageBurn” to burn the file into an ISO file which can be burned to a disk. Now make sure your computer boots to the cd rom first. If you know how to do this skip on down, if you don’t, while the computer is first starting up and you see the manufacturers splash screen, tap F12 (some computers it’s F9, others it may be another key, you may have to watch and see if the computer lists the key strokes for getting to the boot menu. If you still cannot find it, boot into the BIOS settings and change your boot order there. Save your settings and exit, the computer will now seek the cd rom as its boot source first.
Place your Windows disk in the computer and start it up. When you see the test at the top of the page “Press Any Key To Boot From CD” Just hit the space bar to activate. The next screen you will see will most likely be a Windows setup screen, when you see this press the “R” key to get to the recovery console. It will get there, it may take a little time, patience. Once it loads you will be given a choice of Windows installations, there should only be one, if there are more, always pick number one. It may ask for an administrators password, if you have not set this particular password, then just leave it blank and press enter. The next prompt you see is:
C:\Windows>
You need to type the following:
cd \
hit enter. Pay close attention to the spacing between the characters. There is a space between the character “d” and the “\”
You are now at the ROOT of the drive, this is where basic commands can be given and changed. You should now see the following:
C:\>
Now type the following:
CHKDSK /R
Hit the enter key.
The chkdsk /r command also includes the P command and will also look for lost recoverable information in bad sectors.
There are occasions depending on how corrupt the system is, that this process could take several hours, so be patient with it.
Now, after chkdsk has run type the following:
FIXBOOT
Hit the enter key.
It may prompt you with a warning, that’s ok, just continue. When fixboot has finished, type: EXIT hit enter and windows will reboot. When the system reboots, tap the F8 key during this time and you will see the multi-boot menu come up. Scroll to the title “Last Know Good Configuration” and hit the enter key. If you were having some simple drive errors this should have fixed them.

SOURCE: hello, the problem with

If you are getting the Toshiba Select F2 or F12 screen the mother board has finished with POST.

Toshiba laptops are very good normally but don't boot up if there is a device in the USB slot or a CD/DVD in the drive.
If it still refuses to POST, remove the AC Adapter, remove the battery and remove the hard drive.
Power the unit up without the hard drive and it should complete POST and complain that there is no hard drive. If that doesn't work remove AC adapter, ensure battery is disconnected and remove hard drive and RAM. Try again. If it still doesn't work, you have a mother board fault and it needs a service centre. www.Toshiba.com will help you out.
If it does work at one of the options, when you have closed the laptop down, replace the RAM first and test, then the Hard Drive.
Hope this fixes your problem.

Hi i had to reformat my toshiba satelite p300 because i had viruses but now my user name and password wont log in to the computer any ideas thanks ?

You will need to use the Toshiba recovery CD for that. Unfortunately, if you did not create a recovery CD when the computer is still working, the only way you can get one is to call Toshiba and purchase a recovery CD. Otherwise, you will need to buy a Windows CD as well and all the other application that comes with your computer and install them manually. I do hope this information helped.

Hi, I am trying to set my Toshiba Satellite

Just before the laptop boots, a Toshiba screen opens inviting F2 or F12. This will let you into the BIOS menu if you press F2 at that time. When you are there, find Default Settings in the menu and press F10 and enter.
That is now set to default and you can start the restore process.
Hope that helps.

Hi im having trouble with getting my desktop to come up. its just showing start thats it and saying location is not availble

It sounds like you have maybe two problems.
Firstly, press start and when it shows the BIOS menu, press F2. Select default settins from the menu and save with F10.
Press start again, if it doesn't try to load after the POST, (BIOS menu) and press F8 as it is starting to boot up. Select Safe Mode and let it run until it has finished loading. Close down and it should have repaired itself. If it hasn't, and I am assuming it does get past the BIOS menu because if it doesn't there is a MotherBoard fault and it will require technical support through Toshiba.
If it doesn't load but gets past POST, as it finishes the BIOS option menu, (F2 or F12) press F8 and select recovery. Follow the prompts and that should sort your problem out.

Hope that helps.

I want to enter BIOS setup of a fujitsu siemens scenic desktop

When your computer first starts up, almost immediately after you push the power button, a prompt on the lower portion of the screen (but not always lower, sometimes upper) will appear saying 'Press F2(for example) to enter BIOS, or SETUP.
You don't have very long to press the button, as the screen will change quickly, but the most common bios entry hotkeys are Del, F2, F10 or F12. Hope this helps.

Asus a6 series notebook problem

After pressing the power button to boot up your unit, immediately tap (just keep on tapping it) the F2 to go in to bios and set your boot priority.
Try tapping F12 to load boot menu and bootit from the disc but I'm not sure if it is the same as Toshiba laptops.

Hope this helps
