My screen starts looking like the Matrix. The lights are green and the game can be continued (if you can see the screen). I have the system on an open shelf with good air flow. Not sure what is happening.

The first thing I tried was the HDTV switch. I did notice that there was no red light when the cable was not plugged in. Only when it was. Most likely an issue with the cable or the part where it plugs into the system. Will try to get a new cable tomorrow, otherwise, I still don't know what to do.

When turning on my N64, the power light turns on and I have a standard AV cable hooked up, but the video will not come through on the TV.

Step 1:

So you've eliminated the possibility of bad cables. Now you need to eliminate the TV and the Nintendo 64 itself.

Step 2:

For the TV, you can try another TV or make sure that you have the TV set on the right input.

Step 3:

If you can't make it work on an additional TV and you have made absolutely sure that the TV is setup correctly, then you may be looking at a broken Nintendo 64.

Console light stays green all the time.

Your system's power supply cord could be faulty.
it could be receiving too much current and its making your power supply think the system needs to stay on. try plugging your console into a different outlet or surge protector. if that doesnt work you will most likely have to get a new power supply cable.

Green light, black screens, no sound, needs new battery???

The alarm is just a coincidence i suspect, green light comes on and stays on probably not the battery at fault. It would be red.
If the green light goes out and screens just flash one of your screens are at fault or a loose ribbon connection.
