Question about Kelvinator Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have searched for info on my vintage Kelvinator in order to establish a fair market value for sale, but not one photo matches mine. The closest I 've seen anywhere is about 1949. There must be a

A pale yelloiw, full sized upright; single door over a vented bottom plate; Familiar knight's head medallion (about 3") at top center of door and KELVINATOR embossed across middle front. Inside, freezer is compartment at top, with two knob controls centered above. Shelves are metal. Twin drawers at bottom. Door inside has one egg caddy, and a shelf below. Large label in center of door has come off. Could that have been the info I need to get the model #? We stopped using it recently - only because it freezes everything.

Richard, thank you for your response, but I was premature posting at this time, as we are involved in major remodelling of our home right now. I can't remember to enlist help to haul the refrigerator away from the wall. I'll do that before I bother you again...sorry!

SOURCE: Fridge and freezer warm at top, colder but not normal on lower shelves

How old is this frig? If it is older that 12-15 years, get a new one. Make sure there is not blockage to keep the air from circulating properly. The vent from the freezer to the cooler should also be free from blockage as well.

SOURCE: Bosch Side by Side, top shelves dont freeze food, bottom does

majority of refrigerators today are equipped with an automatic icemaker. The water valve supplying the icemaker is a key component of the icemaking system, and it should be the first thing you check if the icemaker's performance is erratic or if the icemaker stops working. When the icemaker calls for ice, its switch closes an electrical circuit and energizes the solenoid-operated water valve. This allows water to flow through the valve and into the ice cube tray. The water is frozen into cubes, and the cubes are dumped into the ice bin. As time passes, strange things may happen to the refrigerator's icemaking capability. The cubes may be small or there may be a solid chunk of ice instead of individual cubes. It's also possible that the icemaker will stop working. These are all signs of a malfunctioning water valve. The valve is equipped with a screen on its inlet to remove minerals and sediments in the water supply. Over time, minerals and sediment build up on the screen and restrict flow through the valve, or even block it completely. Minerals that make it through the screen can cause the valve to stick in the open position, overfilling the ice cube tray in the process. This is a common problem in areas with hard water, but it can happen just about anywhere. Another malfunction that will cause the icemaker to stop working is a break in the solenoid coil winding. This is known as an open coil. The coil winding generates a magnetic field as current passes through it, and this magnetic field opens the plunger valve that controls water flow. A break in the coil winding stops current flow and this prevents the valve from operating. Test And Inspect The icemaker's valve is easy to inspect and test. First, gently pull the refrigerator away from the wall, and unplug it. Turn off the water supply to the icemaker by closing the shut-off valve in the copper waterline leading to the valve (Fig. 1). Use a screwdriver or nutdriver to remove the rear lower access panel from the refrigerator's back. Next, remove the fill tubing from the water valve. Use a wrench to loosen the flare nut on the brass fitting on the inlet side of the valve (above). Place a container under the valve to catch the small amount of water that will spill from the valve and tubing. Now use a screwdriver or a nutdriver to remove the screw holding the valve's mounting bracket to the refrigerator cabinet (Fig. 2). Pull the valve out of the compartment and remove the tube on the valve's outlet. Then, remove the solenoid's electrical contacts (Fig. 3).

SOURCE: Replacement glass shelf required

Not too sure what your glass shelf looks like, but if you can't find replacements it might be easier to just get a sheet of plexiglass and glass cutting tool from a home depo (or the like) and cut it to the correct measurements. That's what I did for mine.

What is the value of my Elkhart saxophone number n07380

https://www.ebay.com/b/ELKHART-Vintage-Saxophones/119030/bn_35516128

Search eBay for similar models to estimate what the market will pay, as there is not exact pricing for an older Saxophone.

You could try listing it on eBay of other sites to see what is offered to you to get an idea.

FIXYA unpaid volunteers are not capable of giving an answer as to the value - value is subject to the normal ups and downs of markets, supply and demand, and other such factors.

Value on a vintage 1950s gimbeles sewing machine

Vintage sewing machines, like many antique items, are very subjective in value, depending largely on the cosmetic and working condition, the accessories, where it is located, etc. Search the internet for recent sales of similar machines. Ultimately, it boils down to how much a buyer is willing to pay.

What would be the value of my vintage watch?

It looks like a gold filled case and of course it's a standard wind. I would put a value on your watch if it is in running order of $100.00. This may not be what you could get for it but if it was being sold in good running condition that would be a fair price. Hope this helps, gabe.

Price Match for Samsung LN-46A650

Hey NEAG,

If you are looking to obtain a price match through your local Best Buy™ store, there are a few criteria that must be met in order for us to be able to honor a competitor's pricing:

* The sale price must be current - we cannot honor expired pricing.

* The sale price must be offered by a local competitor, in a physical brick-and-mortar store. Please keep in mind that what constitutes a local competitor may vary from store location to store location, but a good rule of thumb is that the competitor must be within the same metro market.

* Web-only pricing (through companies such as Amazon.com or eBay) cannot be honored. Best Buy™ stores are only able to price match Bestbuy.com, and another competitor's online price if it is being honored at their own local store.

* Limited-time only sales, bundle packages and other special offers (such as rebates) cannot be honored.

* Price matches cannot be combined with any other offer, such as the HDTV Advantage.

* The product being sought must be in stock at the local competitor in order for the price match to be honored.

Should you have any other questions, I would strongly suggest referring to the following Best Buy™ website for more information:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=page&contentId=1118843518460&id=cat12098

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

I had a JVC stereo model # KD-S890 and I was wondering the value of that stereo...someone broke into my jeep and I was wondering the value of it...

Technology leaps ahead so fast..The value of the unit just might be a moot point if you are wanting to get the closest thing to the same features, etc.. The age of the unit is such that the original start date of manufacture makes it "obsolete". However, your insurance adjuster might be able to figure a "fair market" value to help you decide what to do next..accordianman
