I would perform a diagnostic first to make sure there are no hardware issues.

If your computer doesnt have the diagnostic option when your boot up and press F12. Then you need to download the diagnostic file and burn it on a CD and boot from it.

If your diagnostic is clear of any issues. Then I recommend a firmware upgrade, this should fix your firmware. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFULL. you can brick your laptop if not done correctly, read all the instructions and warnings from the link of the firmware below. MAKE SURE THAT THE LINK IS THE EXACT MODEL YOU HAVE. If you are not sure then choose the Support link and enter your service tag and find your firmware that way.

do you really need it? A mouse right-click in the bottom-left corner will open you menu, choose 'shut-down' -> 'sleep' or 'hibernate' - if enabled. In the 'power' advanced menu you'll find how your PC will behave in different states under different button's push.

Interesting, would expect it to be a setting in the Advanced Power Options but you've mentioned that you've disabled hibernation? If you go to Advanced Power Options and under the "Sleep" section, what have you got set for "Sleep After" and "Hibernate After"?
Also, do you have a screen saver set? It seems like its hibernating or sleeping after you have been idle or away from the PC for a certain amount of time.
You can try checking the event viewer around the time it happens to see if there are any corresponding events. Right-click Computer > Manage > Event Viewer, and check the system logs.

What does the Zz light on my Asus X581L mean?

It is the hibernation light. Hibernation is where the PC saves the state it was in, then uses just the tiniest amount of power to preserve that state. When you restart, it is far faster to resume.

If your battery is going to run out while you are in hibernation mode, it will automatically save its state fully and shut down.

Hope this helps!

Try running a system restore and restore your system back to an previous date when your hibernate is working.

Open System Restore by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking System Restore.? If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Note: Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. System Restore will restart your computer.
