If it is a top loading unit when you open the lid look along the back edge and there should be a button type switch that you can manually push down with your finger while the lid is open. While deprressing it turn on unit to see if it starts.

If its a front load look where in the same spot along the edge where the hinges are for some type of button to press and repeat. It may also be where the latch catches and locks the door and you may have to insert something. While pressing the button with the door open try to start unit. If it starts immediately release the switch so water will not get you wet.

If the unit starts with either test your switch would be ok.

Check out http://applianceguru.com/category1/ this website will be invaluable to you if you want to repair your machine yourself. Calling an appliance repair service will be very expensive often resulting in buying a new unit do to the repair cost and labor charges if your appliance is fairly old. But at this site simply punch in your model number (they will even tell you how to find that) and a diagram will come up with all the parts for your machine.

The site will also help you troubleshoot your machine to determiine what parts you will need. You will then find videos to help you do the repairs. And the best thing of all is , if you order the part they are delivered FAST and if it turns out not to be the problem you can return the part for reimbursement. If you have ever had an appliance repair done and they installed a part that wasnt the problem you were stuckl paying for it and the next part they wuld think the problem was!.

Still having a problem then hit their forum and post a message explaining your symptoms and model ect and you will quickly have someone giving you advice on how to repair ect. Or simply type in your symptoms and search the forum and I will almost bet someone has already posted the same problem with your brand and and an answer will immediately be found.

Good Luck and don't let appliances intimidate you they are VERY simply machines once you realize how they work and how simple they are constructed.

SOURCE: broken door latch whirlpool ghw9100lw1

The following link explains how to replace the door latch on a Whirlpool front loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587965-door_latch_replacement_fdl_error

This is a very simple repair. I'm surprised at the cost of the labor you were quoted. An experienced technician can replace one of these latches in 30 minutes or less.

An alternate method of the replacing the latch is the remove the top panel of the washer and work down through the top. Due to variations in design features between models, this isn't always possible. If you want to remove the top panel, just locate and remove the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. If you have access the latch assembly from the top, you can attempt the repair using this method.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Door will not lock to start wash cycl

This sounds like a classic door lock problem. There was a design change in the lock assembly because of numerous problems.
You say you had the door replaced, did they replace the lock assy also?
The control puts power to the wax motor that operates the latch. As the door locks, the latch activates the lock switch that tells the control the door is locked.
What kind of reading are you getting on the lock switch?
Thanks/Mike

I am working on a Frigidaire washer model LAFW3511KWO custmer say it stopped when she trys to start it door latch just hums? Bad board.or latch?

Thank you for your inquiry, Larry!
From the information you have provided your Frigidaire washer is humming when you attempt to start a cycle. This could be a possible issue with door latch or control board. Does the washer display any error codes? I would recommend checking for any damages or cracks along the door strike or door latch that could cause the washer to not show a connection between the two. If there is no damage, you would need to disassemble your washer and test out the control panel and door latch. I hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

May tag Neptune 5500. The door locked light never comes on and door is not locked in any cycle. How do I test the switch/lock assembley? And is there a way to trick the machine into thinking that the door...

Grounding in a 120vac environment usually will cause a big spark and pop the circuit breaker. There is a possibility the latch is like a car door latch. If it somehow gets moved to the shut or latched position when the car door is open, it will never close and latch . The latch must be returned to it's normal door open position so that when closed it will latch securely.
Your machine's latch may be blocked by something acting like the car door latch described above. It may be the switch has broken and is the "culprit".

How do I get the Whirlpool washer door to close all the way? I think the door lock is jammed

The lock/latch on your door is electromechanical, incorporating a electrical safety catch. See if a reboot (unplug for 10 minutes, then plug it back in.) does anything for you. It could be a latch, wiring, motherboard, door closed safety circuit or something in the pause circuit.

Hi, I'm an electrician and I have a problem with my washing machine! I have a 7kg front loader, model:- WFS1071BW. Originally i thought the door switch was faulty but it tests fine... the unit

Just try to check the door latch device. Be sure that the latch is not bound or sticking in any way .This problem with a lot of machines and it almost always was the door lock latch assembly. It has a switch inside it that pauses or stops the cycle if the door is not closed properly, when this switch malfunctions then it will pause or stop the cycle repeatedly; just from the small movement of the wash cycle. The door will actually be shut all the way and the lock may be on. You must replaced this switch so it works normal again..

I have a LG WD - 1049C front loader washing machine showing the DE error have emptied out the washing machine and it still comes up, partner bought a new door latch and installed it but the DE is still...

DE error does mean the door latch, but there are three parts that could cause the error code.If you have changed the door lock already then the main p.c.b/computer board has failed and not registering the door lock but there is a 5-10% chance it's the wiring connecting the two parts together. So basically you need to change the main p.c.b & if that doesn't work it needs to be rewired.unless you know how to use a multi-meter then you could test the wiring for a definate answer.THANKS ECO KIZZA

How to replace door lock electrolux washing machine

Simple enough. Pull plug out and remove top cover of machine. There is a long way and short way so ill advise short way. The latter would require taking the boot off which needs expertise putting it back. Ok open front door and with screwdriver undo 2 screws holding the inner door latch. Place you one hand in the machine and then pull latch up high enough to allow you to pull wiring off. Note the position of those wires.(important). Once off, replace in reverse order, and test.

There is a switch in the door latching mechanism that is not being closed rendering the machine useless. You have to replace the door latch mechanism. Go to attached site for parts Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts
