This was very dangerous, and yes this could have caused all sorts of problems to any appliance that was plugged in and switched on at the time, you should report the engineer to edf and it may be possible (if you can get an electrician to confirm that the faults you've had since were cause by reverse polarity) to make a claim for compensation against edf

I was given Acer Veriton 7500G and the cables are disconnected from the mother body, cables are hanging out. how do i connect each cable

Here is a link to the service manual for your PC. It lists the motherboard connections for all the cables that are needed to be attached for operation. Be advised that the Power LED and Hard Drive LED connectors are polarity-sensitive and if installed reversed will not work. If the mainboard has a "+" sign at one of the pins for the connection, ensure that the cable you connect has its colored wire (usually green for the POWER LED and red for the HDD LED), on the "+" terminal. If they don't work when you power up, you can simply reverse them. Having them installed wrong will not damage the mainboard.

Hello does it make any difference which way round i connect the leads from the power on/off switch to the motherboard front panel header. There are two wires a Black and a Green but there are no...

Absolutely no difference.
Polarity is only important for indicator LEDs (power, HDD etc), but no harm will be done if connected the other way - they will just not light up when they should and will need replugging the proper way.

Error 161 & 163 on ibm aptiva 2168-m62

try this one:

Errors 161, 192, 163.
All three of these errors are connected to the back up
battery.
To resolve this problem:
1. open memory flap on base of laptop (small philips
screwdriver required)
2. find the small connector with 1 black & 1 red wire
coming from it.
3. disconnect above connector and gently pull the
Red&black wires. The backup battery should just pull out
from under the casing.
4. get replacement battery. Either
a. call IBM spares (07900 247 490 in UK) and ask for FRU:
02K6502. UK price is about £8 + £15 delivery + VAT.
b. if comfortable with soldering iron: Carefully open the
packaging on the backup battery using a sharp knife.
Remove the solder tags from the battery (these are spot
welded so need to be cut/broken off). Buy a new CR2025
battery from any computer shop, jeweler, or camera shop.
Using electrical tape, insulate all round edge of battery
(see the one just removed). Solder the leads onto the new
battery - note polarity. Red wire to +, black wire to -.
Using more insulating tape, wrap battery so that all
exposed metal is covered.
5. put new battery into laptop (reverse steps 1-3)
6. start up computer, error 192 has gone, but still shows
161, 163. Select OK.
7. reset date & time, and OK
8. when screen shows 'O / I' restart laptop using on/off
switch at side.

Need to re-attach power button cable, hard drive

The manual for your computer is available from emachines, p.168 shows the info you need (replacing the front I/O panel)
http://downloads.emachines.com/userguides/8511279_eM_NG3_chassis_HW_ref_en.pdf

The good news is that you can't harm the computer by connecting the wires wrong and the bad news is they just won't work the way they are supposed too if not connected properly. The LED's must have the correct polarity to work.
In general, if you look real close (as in magnifying glass and flash light) you will see the ID for each set of pins is printed on the motherboard (pwr, rst,HDD,pwr sw,speaker) Just match what it says on the motherboard to what it says on the wires. Don't worry if you get the polarity wrong. If a light doesn't work just swap the two wires. The colored wires should be positve (+), though. The reset (rst) and power switch (pwr sw) wires don't require polarity.
These instructions are for most computers in general, YMMV.

How do i hookup a new computer?

Most of the chords fit in only one place.
The power cord, big black one can only go in one place.
The keyboard will be either a round ps2 plug or a usb plug. If it is round plug it into the purple round matching socket close to the top of the tower, if usb then plug it anywhere it fits.
Same with the mouse but that goes in the green socket if its a round ps2 type.
the screen goes in the matching plug. if there is more than one plug for the screen then it goes in the bottom most one.
speakers go in the green speaker connection.
If you have a broadband connection it goes in the network port nmost likely, the only one it will fit in.

My ethernet cable does not fit into my PC.

Hi
Ethernet cables must be placed the right way round. Make sure that you are using the ethernet socket - it looks like this.

If it is an older computer you may not have an ethernet port. It is possible to install one - you will need to buy the necessary hardware.

It could also be that your ethernet cable is broken, or that you have the wrong cable. You can buy a new one from amazon.

Hope this helps

Hp pavilion m7330n motherboard issue

The system in question requires motherboard model ms-7184 and can be found on ebay for less than $100.  If your repair guy used a different motherboard you will get the issues described and need to reinstall the OS.  It is impracticle to put any more than $200 in most desktop computers more than 2 years old, your repair guy should have advised you of this straight off.  Find a new person to take your equipment.

Motherboard pin config

All motherboards have a print beside the pins, Speaker= "speak", "pwr s" =powerswitch, "HDDled" red light on front, rst = reset switch [not allways used] "pwr led" Green led, the case wires are usualy marked on the plug ends with the same , "hdd" "reset" and so on. The power switch will work both way's around however the led lights wont. You will not hurt anything if they are the wrong way around, they just wont work so if you dont get lights just reverse the polarity. If by chance the case wires do not have labels the just trace them to the case front panel and plug them into the corresponding board pins. Regards mistyman
