How to fix corrupt broken Group Policy/registry Win7

Infrequently I have computers that will no longer receive/accept Group Policies. Gpupdate /force doesn't work anymore. Problem is random. My only solution right now is to reinstall the OS. Is there another solution? SysRestore doesn't work either

You could run the chkdsk disk utility

click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive


or an easier way i have found to run the chkdsk utility


click start control panel administrative tools computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes


automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart


have no input while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may further damage your computers operating system and hard drive

I want to stop you there. You should stick with Windows Vista SP1 because Sp2 has A LOT of program incapability problems (e.g. some games will not work in SP2, but work fine in SP1). Hope I helped - donman92

Those users running genuine version of Windows 7 provided with their hardware platform reported that immediately after log on they were presented with following error message. “Windows is not genuine. Your computer might not be running a counterfeit copy of Windows. 0×80070005.”
Some other symptoms of associated with this issue are,
The computer desktop background is black, and you receive the following error message on the bottom right corner of the screen:
“This copy of Windows is not genuine”
You receive the following error message when you view the System Properties: (Control Panel / System and Security / System)
“You must activate today. Activate Windows now”
If you try to use slmgr.vbs /dlv to view the licensing status, you receive the following message:
Error: 0×80070005 Access denied: the requested action requires elevated privileges
Microsoft is fully aware of this issue and provided following explanation for the issue,
There is a lack of permissions in the registry key HKU\S-1-5-20. The Network Service account must have full control and read permissions over that registry key.
This situation may be the result of applying a Plug and Play Group Policy object (GPO).
To resolve this issue, you can either disable the policy setting (Method A), or edit the permissions to provide the Licensing Service the required permissions (Method B).

We have a KM bizhub 250, and we upgraded our server to a SBS 2008 Server. Now our scanning is not working. What could be the problem?


If this server is also a domain controler that is usually caused by the following setting:
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign Communications (Always), The default setting for domain controllers is enabled, for others is not configured or disabled. This usually causes problems when acessing the share from devices are not cable of Digitally Sign Communications, like some multifunctionals/scanners or linux machines. This does not happen on all machines since some are capable of Digitally Sign Communications. Usually older machines have this issue.
So, try to disable this setting on the server, on the Domain controller security policy and Default Domain Policy.

Execute Gpupdate /force or reboot the server to apply the policy change

You will not be able to change this setting trough gpedit , local computer policy since it is overrided by the Domain security policy.

Execute Gpupdate /force or reboot to apply policy

Trough gpedit you will be able to see the option but not change it, so I suggest that after the change you cannot scan to the folder check trough gpedit if it is disabled.
If it is not disabled, disable it at the top of the hierarchy. Something may be overriding the setting.

If it still does not work try the following, togheter with the previous setting
Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) -> disabled

Dont forget to execute Gpupdate /force or reboot to apply policy each time you change something.

are you scanning to the server using \\server_ip_address\shared_folder or \\server_name\shared_folder?
Just wondering about name resolution.
Is the domain field configured in the machine? if not you might have to specify the user for authentication like for example: user@domain.local

For the "Domain Group Policy" Verify correct registry settings::

How to Enable Right Click on Desktop-Fixed


If you are having troubles with the context menu (right click menu), right clicking on the desktop doesnot do anything then most probably you have your group policies set to not displaying the context menu in windows explorer. You can change it in two ways. One from the group policy editor and one from the registry editor.
1- From Group Policy Editor
To re-enable your context menu from the group policy editor, go to Run –> gpedit.msc –> User Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Windows Explorer. In the right hand pane, find “Windows Explorer’s default context menu”, open its properties by double clicking it. If it’s enabled or not configured, disable it and your context menu will be back as soon as you apply this policy.





2 – From Registry Editor
To re-enable your context menu from the registry, go to Run –> regedit –> HKEY_CURRENT_USER –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> CurrentVersion –> Policies –> Explorer. In the right hand pane find “NoViewContextMenu”, set its value to 0 if it exists. If you still can’t right click your desktop, then you can look for the same key here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> CurrentVersion –> Policies –> Explorer

Firstly, check C:\documents and settings\
All your user accounts should be there. Back those files up somewhere before you lose them for good.

After that, if you're on XP... go start, run, type "cmd" and enter.
In the DOS box, type "gpupdate /force".

That last command will forcibly update the local group policies... which should restore everything to normal.

If that doesn't work, right-click my computer, properties, advanced, user profiles, settings. There might be some unknown account types there. Try copying them to a new profile.

Lastly... if all else fails, you may have a corrupt registry. Go start-programs-accessories-system tools-system restore.
Launch that, and pick a date before the issue began, and let it roll back to that time.

In any case, your documents and shortcuts can't be wiped from a registry problem or group policy corruption. =-]
