Marantz CD48 No Disc - how do I clean the laser head?

After a period of storage without use, the CD player doesn't recognize the discs I insert. It says "no disc". I already cycled he power, tried other discs, and gently tapped here and there. thanks for any advice!

SOURCE: My JVC cd player, plus Mini disc, and radio. CD will not play

Thank you for your email. The problem must have been dust. I kept putting the cleaning disc in for quite a number of times. Thankfully the problem was simple and it is playing super.

Kind regards to all.

SOURCE: it is not reading the blank disks anymore

Sounds like that may be the case. You can buy one of those cd cleaning discs and try using that. or if you want to spend the time dis-assembling the recorder and use some rubbing alchohol and a q-tip to clean the laser lens. Otherwise not worth the cost to repair.

SOURCE: Marantz CD48 - CD spins backwards

Check the small signal transistors BC338 and BC328, they're under the transport mech and will be near where the spindle motor plugs in to the PCB.
One of the transistors acts as a brake which momentarily puts the motor in reverse polarity to stop the CD rotating during 'stop' or 'open tray' modes. The reason the CD is spinning backwards is that the transistor which drives the spindle motor forwards during playback is faulty and is triggering the braking transistor hence spinning backwards.
The transistors should be 'BC328-25' / 'BC338-25' (25v)
Replace these and all should be well.

Hope this helps

laser cleaning cd's very rarely work. the only thing they are good for is if there is a build-up of dust on the lens. Sounds like you most likely need to have the laser replaced.

Front panel on machine just reads ..disc not finalised.what does this mean please?

Are the discs ones that you created (burned), someone else burned, or commercial discs? The message of disc not finalized usually appears when you put a CD or DVD from one unit into anther without closing (finalizing) the disc. The finalization step doesn't matter if the disc is being moved between computers with compatible OS versions (for example: XP through Windows 7). However, any other device will need this procedure completed.

Take the disc back to the unit (computer or other burner) where the disc was burned. If the computer uses Windows, put the disc in the optical drive. Open My Computer (Computer) depending on the OS by double left-clicking on the icon on the desktop. Right click on the optical drive and select Close Session.

If you created the CD on another machine, check the details for that device.

Note: you should double-check that the format that you burned to disc is compatible with this CD player. Not all models support MP3 files. On my own older CD player, I had to burn WAV files without gaps in a Disc At Once format to get the discs to play without skips.

I hope this helps.

(if the discs were commercial discs or have been finalized, I would expect a different error. In that case, I'd suspect a tracking problem and a "No Disc" error.)

Displays no disc when Cd is player

Hello
Put it an other good known disc, which the set has played without any problem at all. If it also doesn read it, and displays no disc, the Laser Picku unit of your set has damaged. Put in a lens cleaning disc into the player, and play it for at least three times. If the fault is due to accumulation of dust or durt, the cleaning disc will clean it, and your set will be OK. If not repalce the Laser Picku Unit, sith same type and number.
The lens cleanig disc can be bought from most of the electronic sparpart selling shops at your town, and won't cost more. OK.

Records entire church service & indicates time on display but when we finalize disc it immediately says bad disc or new disc

A laser beam on most (nor all) machine got a ''fixed'' lifetime. After some periode, the light beam get weaker and problem starts. First step would be to make the head clean, i do it myself with Qtip and alcohol make sure the eye is crystal clear, without any imperfection on it. Some times accessing the carrier is not easy, i'm not a fan of auto cleaning disc anyway. So after 2-3 or 4 years, and normal and hours are done with the machine, its normal that problems appear. Before you ask, its usually not economical to replace and ''tune'' a new laser unit. Also, a dvd recorder with hard drive would be a good investement. Look for brand name like pioneer...

Ciao, Dave.
