Need a d520 sff motherboard layout

Hi, I am having problems with a error "2 pin connector from power supply not connected". I am happy at this stage to try and find a solution for it, but for the life of me I cannot find where the actual 2 pin connector is on the motherboard. Do you have a picture/layout of a HP d530 sff motherboard.

Mine was do- the same. pin 2 is next to the dim slots its white. i con-ed a 12 fan to it. the fan dont spin i dont get the mess any more i am look for the book to get the jumper set- as well. so i can take the fan off. small 12 v fan

do this test this will tell you if your power supply is good or bad we will do the process of elimination ok.
How do I test if the power supply is bad?
Warning This test is for those with extensive electronics training. Do not try this if you do not have extensive electronics training. Make sure there is enough load connected to the power supply before testing ( at least motherboard and one hard drive)!

ATX power connector layout isshown above. 5VSB constantly provides 5V power to the connector through pin 9. If you have a voltmeter, while the power supply fan does not turn on, you could identify which pin is pin 9. Normally there is a clip on the connector between pin 15 and 16. If one can identify pin 14 (the only green wire goes to pin 14), this is the power-on pin. Onee can use a piece of wire to short pin 14 and 15 (or any other black wired ground pin). If you power supply has power connected to it and power switch on the power supply is on, the fan should be turning by now. Otherwise, your power supply may have problem.

View the motherboard photo at the Top, and also the Motherboard layout illustration, at a little over halfway down the page.

1) In the motherboard photo, all the way to the right side. View the Yellowish/Whitish connector, that has two columns of 12 socket holes.

This is where the 24-pin ATX main power cable plugs in.
In the motherboard layout illustration it is labeled - ATX1.

Here is a general example of this power cable, and respective connector on the motherboard,

Note that new Power Supply's, generally come with a 20+4-pin ATX main power cable.
This is so it can be used on the older computers that used a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and newer ones that need a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Do not mix it's extra 4-pin power cable, with the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.

Note the Lock on the side/middle. It has a hook on the end. The hooked end goes over a Tab, on the motherboard's connector.
The Lock works on the same principle as a see-saw on a playground.

You squeeze the top near where the wires come in, and this brings the hooked end away from the Tab, on the motherboard connector.
With the top of the Lock still squeezed in, the power cable is then removed USING the connector. (NOT the wires)

When assured that the power cable is plugged in tightly, and correctly, the hooked end of the Lock will be over the Tab, on the motherboard connector.

2) Look to the left of the Processor socket, and halfway in-between it, and the outside edge of the motherboard.
Whitish 4-socket hole square connector.

This is where the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable plugs in. Power for the Processor. Note that it also has a Lock, with a Tab on the motherboard connector.

In the motherboard layout illustration it is labeled - PWR1

That's it for the motherboard as for power cables that plug into it.

The rest of the power cables from the Power Supply, plug into the optical drive/s, harddrive, and card reader if used.

4) If your harddrive is an IDE (PATA) unit, it will use a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable. Same with an optical drive that is an IDE (PATA) unit,

The computer case fan plugs into SYS_FAN1 connector, which is below the PWR1 connector. You may also have a computer case fan that uses the above power cable.

5) If your Harddrive, or optical drive/s are SATA, they will use a SATA power cable,

6) A Card Reader uses a power cable, that is also used for a Floppy Drive.

It is a 4-pin Small Peripheral power cable.
Has the same voltage wires; (Yellow - 12 Volts, Red - 5 Volts), and two Black ground wires, but a smaller connector, than a 4-pin Standard Peripheral power cable,

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of wires on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

Although the Front Panel header has NOTHING to do with the Power Supply, I will include it also,

Motherboard positioned in computer case; Processor to the Top, Ram Memory slots to the Right;
The Front Panel header is at the bottom/right of the motherboard.

In the Motherboard layout illustration, JFP1 is marked under this header.

There are 4 pins across the Top row, 5 pins across the Bottom row.
The pins on the Top row are numbered EVEN.
The pins on the Bottom row are numbered ODD.

Starting on the LEFT side going towards the Right, Top row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO Pin 10.

Starting on the LEFT side going towards the Right, Bottom row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light Emitting Diode)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is N/C. Not Connected. Reserved for factory use.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED.
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

F) Again, there is No Pin 10.

A) 24-pin ATX main power cable:

In the photo, look to the right of the Blue ram memory slots.

The Yellowish/Whitish connector to the right of them, with two columns of 12 socket holes, is where the 24-pin ATX main power cable plugs in.

This is a general example of a 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's respective connector on the motherboard,

Note the middle photo, and the Lock on the side of the power cable's connector. The Lock has a hooked end that goes over a Tab, on the motherboard's connector.

The Lock works like a see-saw on a playground. The top is squeezed in, and this brings the hooked end away from the Tab, in order to remove the power cable.
When assured that the power cable is plugged in tightly, and therefore correctly, the hooked end of the Lock will be over the motherboard connector's Tab.

B) 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable:

In the center of the motherboard, under the Processor socket, is the Northbridge chip. (Part of the motherboard chipset)
It is under a finned aluminum Heatsink, that resembles a meat tenderizer's head.

Draw an imaginary line up above it, in-between the Processor socket, and the aluminum finned Heatsink, and go straight LEFT.
See the whitish 4-socket hole square connector?

In the Motherboard Layout it is marked by - JPW1

This is where the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable plugs in. It is power for the Processor. Has the same locking setup as the 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's motherboard connector.

C) In the Motherboard Layout to the top left corner of ram memory Slot 1, (DIMM1), is where the Processor fan connects.

D) In the Motherboard Layout just below JPW1 is where the computer case fan plugs into. SYS_FAN1

E) In the Motherboard Layout - SATA1 - is where the SATA Harddrive data cable plugs into. (Below ram memory slots)

The SATA power cable from the power supply, plugs into the SATA harddrive. Note that the SATA power cable's connector, is longer in length than the SATA data cable's connector.

[SATA power cable has 15-pin. SATA data cable has 7-pins ]

Note that both cable's connectors, have an L-shape on the inside.

IF, your SATA harddrive has a provision for a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, ONLY use just the SATA power cable!

Otherwise you will burn up the SATA harddrive. May not happen right away, but I assure you it will happen!

[ A note on SATA.
The beauty of SATA, is that you can plug into ANY SATA connector on the motherboard, and BIOS will see it.

If you plug the Harddrive into SATA 1, or SATA 2, or SATA 3, or SATA 4, connector on the motherboard, IT DOES NOT MATTER.
BIOS will find the Harddrive, or optical drive ]

The Front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

In the Motherboard Layout illustration, the Front Panel header is down at the Bottom/Right corner, and is marked - JFP1.
(Right in the very bottom/right corner is JUSB2. JFP1 is right above it)

JFP1. Junction Front Panel 1.
9-pin header. Black rectangle.
5 pins on the Right side, 4 pins on the Left side.

The pins are numbered EVEN on the LEFT side.
Starting on the BOTTOM going UP;
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO Pin 10.

The pins are numbered ODD on the RIGHT side.
Starting on the BOTTOM going UP;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED.

Dont seem to have enough front panel pins for all my case wires

The image above has the following for your I/O connectors.
1. Three usb headers up to 6 additional devices, most casing can support 2-4 pins. 2. Front Audio Connector. 3. Front Panel Connector. Power Sw, Reset Sw, Powed Led, HDD Led

Branded casing has the following I/O connectors.
1. Esata 2. Firewire (Dont use the USB headers, firewire use a different pin-layout) 3. Chassis Intrusion Alarm Header.

I need to know if the Intel Desktop Board D865GBF/D865GLC on the main power connector, in the pin 18 have -5vdc or NC.


Here is the pin-out for the power connector:

These connections are common for all the motherboards, so there is no reason for looking for intel motherboard's layout. If the power connector has 24 pins (the new motherbords) the 18th pin is "com", id the connector has 20 pins (the old motherboards) the 18th pin is "nc". The Intel D865GBF motherboard has a power connector for 20 pins and a separate one 20 pin connector, here is the layout:

I'm not sure what you mean when you say the case wires don't match the diagram. You might mean there is already a plug on the end of the wiring, and this plug doesn't match the board header. If you're reusing the case from a name-brand machine like a Dell or HP, this is possible. They often get custom versions of motherboards made, and their front panel connectors are usually a nonstandard layout. On the other hand, in a generic retail case, the front panel wires normally have separate connectors on the ends for the switches, indicator LEDs and any front panel USB and audio jacks.

This is the front panel header diagram I found in the manual for your board (I looked at version 2, but the connections should be the same if yours is a different version):

This board has an Intel standard layout for the header. If your wiring has separate connectors, the start (power) switch wires will plug onto pins 3 and 4. I have never seen a retail case come with anything other than a two-pin plug on the end of the power switch.

If you are dealing with a custom plug on your case's wiring, what you can do is remove the pins from the housing. They almost always are held in by a plastic tab on the connector shell that engages a tang on the pin. Use a thin object like a small flat-blade screwdriver or a knife tip to lift the tab and you can slide the pin out. Insulate each pin with small-diameter heat-shrink tubing if you have it, or a layer of electrical tape. (I prefer the heat-shrink tubing, which is neater and more permanent.) Then you can put each pin over the corresponding pin on the motherboard's front panel header. Unless the pins are very loose, they will stay in place by friction. I often use this technique when salvaging a case.

As for the CPU fan, be sure you have the connector over the right pins. Here is the diagram from the manual:

You might need to rearrange the pins in your fan power connector if they don't line up correctly. This layout looks a little strange.

do you have acess to some thing that can show me a photo of what you need assists in or the page you are looking at so i can review the same document you are viewing so we can determ what they want. there must be some different abour v1.1 and v2.1, the size of the board or the board layout, the design, msi configuration is different, power supply location, or the high-th maybe the differance, the list can go on to infinity, set the board in front of you, map out the connection, trace the old wire pro the old equipents, see if they have the same amount connections and plug ins, if they are different than find out which items have different connector contact the manufacture ask for the engineering department and or wirining diagram layout, find out which wires color are used and which one core a late with the new board and remove the old ones, i had a system that had a different speaker pin layout and trace all the wires for the new set of wires, the old one had two 2 ground wires as the new one only had i ground wire i had splice the two 2 ground wires together.

Connecting front panel wiring to INTEL 845GRG Motherboard


Hello davideiker1, the Intel D845GRG MB manual is shared with another Intel board. (D845GBV MB). See page 9 for motherboard layout.
The front panel connectors are shown on page 68, see item C.
On page 69 is, Table 31 shows the pin assignments for the front panel header. Front Panel Header (J9G1).
Pin 1 is power for the hard disk drive led, pin-3 is negative for the hard disk drive. Wire colors coming from the case are important. Look at all of the front case wires. The common color for each 2-pin connector will be ground. In most cases the ground wire is white, except for the internal speaker. Ground for the speaker is normally black. (This motherboards speaker is built into the MB, no hook up is needed).
Pin number 2 is positive for the case power led which lights up as green. Pin 4 is negative for the power led.
The reset switch is a bit different. Pin 5 is negative & pin 9 is positive, however if your case uses a two pin connector than connect pin 7 as ground & pin 9 for positive. The On/Off switch, pin 6 is positive & pin 8 is negative.
If this manual is not what you see on the MB, please advise.

Hi Binny2, this sounds like a power issue & not a possible graphics card issue.
You can try a couple of things.
Use only one DIMM of memory, not both at first. Try booting system, check for display & POST beep………. No?
Clear your cmos, see page 23 in manual.
Next, see page 17 in your manual for, 8-pin ATX_12V Power Connector for CPU: "PWR2".
(Also see: “Note” at bottom of page 17). This MB needs both 8-pin ATX 12v connectors, connected. It is not recommended to drop down to a 4-pin 12v connection as shown on page 17.
