I have a Samsung fridge RFG238AARS an the ice bin in that services the door ice will not come out. The release switch is struck ?

Joe Snow... Hello,

Pretty sure you have had some loose water freezing those sections together... once thusly... you are either looking at brute force and hoping to find/buy the parts you break...

I have the Kenmore Elite... My opinion... the MOST HIGHLY sensitive BIN for jamming onto the door... SINCE I have learned to completely DRY the BIN before putting it back into PRODUCTION... I HAVE had NO trouble GETTING THIS ugly little bin to release...

Still can't get it loose...
You may need the more cerebral approach of allowing the room temperature (perhaps rushed along with a room fan... TO SEPARATE... DRY & REASSEBLE INTO their original design... sans BLOCK ICE.

Using HEAT sources on SOFT PLASTIC parts would/could prove quite EXPENSIVE (assuming you could actually get the PARTS/SPARES... YOU HAVE Warped, Melted & otherwise ruined.... (I'm just saying).

I periodically remove ... dump & clean the ice bin... On the first couple of times I left a little water inside...
What could it harm...

Now that I know the SECRET... It is my go to bin for picnics, parties, champagne buckets, black-eyes, sprains & bruises...

Great fun.

Moisture PROBLEMS = EVERYTHING!!

If THIS proves to be a CHRONIC PROBLEM...

Start checking the ICE Shute is properly closed... door seals are good... warm air penetrating the FREEZER space can cause ice to thaw... water to refreeze... and ICE BINS to turn into serious PROBLEM AREAS.

Go with the EASY & CHEAP issues first...

Make sure you temperatures are where you want them...

Comment me back IF YOU ARE stumped... I like refrigerators!

How do I trouble shoot an ice maker on a whirlpool frig, model GI6FARXXY07. The water dispenser is working, but the tray is not filling.

On the back section inside the cardboard cover there is a dual solenoid operated valve that when energized by buttons on the front of the refrigerator either dispense water, (which appears to work by your descrition) and the other opens to fill ice maker tray. It sounds like the ice tray side is not enerzing or does not work. If you take your model number and go to Searspartsdirect.com you can order the replacement valve and get the system back in operation.
Before I trash a potentially good working dual valve, make sure someone has not turned the on/off switch on the ice maker and/or the bin full bail (if it has one) is in down position. The bin full bail looks shiny metallic and rotates down to the automatic position. When a batch of ice harvests, they puch up against this bail and will halt production when the bin gets full. Once lowered because of ice usages, the bail lowers again to start another batch of ice.
Hope this helps

Our Kenmore side by side refrigerator ice maker makes ice but when we press the ice dispenser lever there is no sound and no ice comes out.

If your refrigerator has an ice dispenser, you are probably used to getting ice right away when a lever or button is pressed. However, if you depress the ice maker button and nothing dispenses, there is an issue with your refrigerator. There are a few different reasons why an ice dispenser would suddenly not work. It is important to troubleshoot your refrigerator first to determine the problem. Some problems can be fixed at home, while others must be repaired by a professional

1 Remove the ice bin from the freezer and press the button on the front of the refrigerator for cubed ice.
2 Open the freezer door and hold down the switch on the door, which "tricks" the freezer into thinking the door is closed, and push the lever or button to dispense ice. The motor behind the ice bin should turn. If it does not, this means the motor is frozen.

3 Remove the motor, following the directions in your refrigerator's manual. Heat and dry out the motor with a hairdryer until the motor turns again, then reinstall the motor according to the manufacturer's directions.

Ice Bin or Chute
1 Remove the ice bin to see if it is overloaded. Ice bins that are too full can cause new ice being produced to back up and cause blockage. If this is the case, dump out the ice and rinse out the ice bin with hot water until any blockage is melted.

2 Examine the separator that divides the ice storage bin from the ice dispenser for holes. If the separator has a hole or is cracked, it must be replaced.

3 Watch the flap on the ice dispenser as you hold down the door switch and simultaneously press the button to dispense ice. If the flap does not close all the way, check for ice blockage and gently remove it. If there is no blockage, the flap will need to be replaced.

Hope this tips would help.

Have a nice day!

NEED PROCEDURE FOR REMOVING THE ICE MAKER FOR INSPECTION AND TROUBLESHOOTING. FRIG IS NEW...ICE MAKER NOT MAKING ICE !!!!!

Are you sure you have the ice bin properly in place?

Ice bin must be locked in place for proper ice dispensing. If necessary, turn auger driver behind ice bin counterclockwise to properly align ice bin with auger driver.

• Press the switch ON to activate ice maker. Slide bin into guide rails located on either side of the enclosure. Push the ice bin in until resistance is felt. Raise the front slightly and push the ice bin completely in. An audible "click" is heard when the ice bin is located correctly.

• After freezer section reaches between 0° to 2° F (-18° to -17° C), ice maker fills with water and begins operating. You will have a complete harvest of ice

approximately every hour.

• Allow approximately 3 to 6 hours after installation to receive first harvest of ice.

• Discard ice created within the first 12 hours of operation to verify system is flushed of impurities.

• Stop ice production by pressing the ON/OFF switch located on the front of the ice maker.

• The first one or two batches will probably contain undersized and irregular cubes because of air in the supply line.

• When the ice cubes are ejected it is normal for several cubes to be joined together at the ends. They can easily be broken apart. The ice maker will

continue to make ice until the supply of ice cubes raises the ice maker arm, shutting the ice maker off.

• Certain sounds may accompany the various cycles of the ice maker. The motor may have a slight hum, the cubes will rattle as they fall into an empty storage bin and the water valve may click or "buzz" occasionally.

The bin arm on my Uline Model 402 ice maker broke off. I have a replacement bin arm. I took off the front plate of the ice maker unit, but am unable to thread the bin arm all the way through the bin arm...

1st remove the icemaker from the unit. Then take the faceplate off.You might find that the support housing is fighting you.You should be able to move the arm into place as long as the icemaker is out.

Ice making problem

There is a metal wire that gets pushed up when the Ice becomes too full and turns off the ice maker. You can pull it back down with you hand and that will unlock it and turn the ice maker back on.

Ice maker won't stop making ice

OK, there's two possible issues but you have to figure out what is happening. Does the ice maker continue to make ice forever and would fill up the whole freezer section in time OR does the ice maker just "over make" ice that overfills the bin which then falls out? If the ice maker just keeps making ice you need the motor module replaced but if it can be turned off by moving the lever up then you need the "modified lever assy." that is on our service bulletins.
