Question about Sony Cybershot S650 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Turns itself off every time I try to take a photo

The problem with my DSC-S650 did not crop up until 2 days ago. I had recently heard about certain tech gadgets having problems adjusting to the New Year, because of the extra day in 2008. (This is my camera's first leap year; it's not even two years old.) So maybe that's why my camera's acting weird, or maybe not.

I put new batteries in and was asked to enter the date and time. No big deal, everything was normal. Tried to take a photo and just as the flash was supposed to go off, the camera shut off. Any time I tried to turn it on afterwards, the logo would flash for a second and it would completely shut off.

I've tried different batteries; they work fine in my other gadgets. If I rearrange or try new ones, I am taken to the date and time screen again, and am then almost allowed to snap a photo. I keep trying, keep resetting the date, all for nothing.

I had absolutely no complaints about my Cyber-Shot until the other day.

I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.

I have a DSC-S650 sony cybershot camera. A few days ago I was able to upload pictures from my memory card via USB cable to my computer without difficulty. Now, my computer doesn't even realize my camera...

An easy way to find out is to try another cable. Better yet, consider NOT using the USB connection at all.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

You will find a setting that will date/time stamp the actual image when it's taken. Please take a look in your manual. Most cameras have this feature.

Date display after down load, DSC-S650 Sony camera

you will not see the date and time on the thumbnail. look at the photo in full screen. make sure part of the photo is not "cropped" by checking to see if the arrows appear at the bottom and right. I bet the date & time is there, you are not seeing it.

Hello dcmassey, the cause of the problem can be CCD imager. So, the best solution is to claim for Sony recall. If there is some other problem ask for the price estimate. Please contact the nearest Authorized Sony Service. Best regards, Arpi
