Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW5550X Problems: Not agitating, kind barely spins and drains. In depth: I just bought this washer used and I did my first load (a small load as a test 4 shirts and 2 dress pants) I hear the motor running like it wants to agitate but I could not hear the water moving. I pressed pause and looked inside and none of the clothes had moved at all (I did this a couple of times). Finally I pressed the power to turn it off, set the knob to drian and spin and pressed start it would start spinning come unbalanced and stop. I pressed pause checked to load everything was balanced fine it start again. And again it through it self off did this a couple more times then gave up and hand wrung out the clothes in the bath tub and put them in the dryer. I am some what mechanically incline and I have replaced the dogs on my old whirlpool before and one of the steel gears in the transmition. what could the problem with this new washer be and could I be able to fix it I am hoping I did not just throw 400 dollars away. Thank you for any help.

This washer is supposed to be smart enough to tell us what it thinks is wrong.

Before taking anything apart or calling service I suggest you try and run a diagnostic test cycle. If the test fails then an error code should be displayed.

Here is a link to the complete service manual. Go to 6-1 for the diagnostic test. Keep me posted!

SOURCE: Whirlpool washer LSQ9659LW0 will not spin.

Check the lid switch. Most washing machines will exhibit the issues you are talking about with this condition. Magnetic switches go out all the time. Too bad, the mechanical type is much mode durable. You can check it a number of ways.. Jump the leads and see if it spins, check your owners manual for a 'test cycle' pull the switch out and visually inspect it (quite often they are clear plastic on the back side), place a magnet over the switch and check continuity on its leads.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Washer does not spin or agitate.

The motor coupling has broke , it is a small plastic rubber piece you can see under the unit that connects the motor to the gear case. very common problem about $120.00-150.00 to have repaired or $20.00 or so for you to replace. they are not simple but not to difficult to do.
Let me know if I can help or answer any other questions.

SOURCE: Whirlpool LSR5233EQ0 top loading washer wont spin

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top
The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupler that is more resilient and should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you find this information helpful. NOTE: There are other problems that can cause the washer symptoms as you describe, but the motor coupling is the least expensive and easiest solution to try first. If the motor coupling is still intact, please let me know.

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SB2 won't spin or agitate. We bought it used and they swore it worked. It goes from 45min and drops down to 3mins. It never completes it's load. And after it beeps with a OL on

Hi.

Most spin troubles are caused by drain or pressure switch problems, but it does not look like that is your case. Check for blockage in drain system and clean the hose connected to pressure switch. As said I do not think that this is the problem but the drain system must be checked as part of troubleshooting.

OL code in fact is not related to drain problems, but to motor and mechanical problem. OL is returned when the washer is overloaded and the motor cannot turn the basket properly.

The first step to diagnose the problem is removing the basket and looking for problems under the basket (e.g. broken part or clothes stuck under the tub). Here a document showing how to.

If parts under the basket are OK the next step will consist in testing the motor. The motor can be tested reading impedance at its phase terminal and across the stator winding. The Cabrio's motor should read about 30/32 Ohms across its phase contacts.

If the motor and the rest are OK the problem is usually the RPS sensor that detects the rotational speed of the motor.

Regards.

Ginko

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SBT Top Load Washer won't aggitate

My Whirlpool WTW6600 had the same problem. The tub no longer floated up and down on the center shaft, so it only spun, not agitated. You must remove the tub (with some effort) and lightly sand / clean the center shaft. Lube it lightly with wheel bearing grease so that after it is reassembled, you can pull the tub upward and feel about 1/2" movement. This will enable the proper gear assembly to engage. It can spin when it rests at the bottom of its travel, but once you fill the tub, it floats, moving upward, and engaging the agitation gear. Good Luck!

Not spinning or draining, only fills and agitates

the mixing valve in the rear needs to be repaced-it controls the water flow Also sounds like the clutch of the transmision maybe be a factor if the machine doesn't spin

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SW1: Won't drain

The washer drew half a tub of water on the "Bulky items" cycle, and stopped. All the lights on the cycle dial light up and flash, the machine beeps and the me error message in the "estimated time remaining" field is "Ld". I've tried to shut the machine down and change the cycle to "drain and spin" but it will not agitate, won't drain or spin.
