15 K Centurian Generator- started during a power failure and shut down after 20 seconds or so. On restarting manually, saw sparks coming out of flywheel area just before it shut off. Local dealed replaced sth starter which had after repeated start attemps been damaged. It seems that the sames problem still exist . The engine starts fine but shuts down after a few seconds and we did see sparks again from the fly wheel area. The starter solenoid is staying engaged while the engine is running . Is this a n electrical relay problem or something worse?

Generac 43901 trys to start but get only a buzzing sound

The buzzing sound is most likely the started solenoid chattering due to low battery voltage, change the battery and try again. If it still does it make make sure the engine is not seized and can turn over. Then measure voltage going from the solenoid to the starter, if it is very low change the solenoid

sound like a dead battery, or dirty / bad connection from battery- try jumping it with a car battery-- if that doesn't work, check battery connection, loose or corroded leads.. otherwise it is solenoid or starter or starter switch

Have you checked the fuse? Mine keeps blowing the fuse (located on the back of the control panel) with each startup and shutdown or use of idle control.

Start runs shutsdown

Typically caused by the fuel line (LP or Natural Gas) having a lot of air in it. Was your generator just installed, or was there any work done to the gas line of the building / generator? Consult local gas contractor / propane dealer / gas company for assistance in purging the fuel line.

A low battery can also cause this as well as the generator is not able to come up to starting speed quick enough. Try placing a stand alone battery charger on the generator and charge the battery. Also check the air filter as well.

OverCrank condition occurs when generator tries to start itself, or be manually started, and the starter spends too much time turning.

This can also indicate failure of the control board. This will need the expertise of generac technician. Call 1-888-GENERAC (1-888-436-3722)

Generator will not start

Is the oil sump full? Has it been run with out oil? You can do an amp draw test on the starter. Should be 60 amps or so. Can you roll the engine by hand? If engine turns free pull the starter out and bench test it with jumper cables. Positive cable to cable lug and negative cable on the starter case. Hang on to it, lots of torque. If the stater turns slow or gets hot it is probably bad.
