Question about Epson Stylus Pro 9880 44" Printer Colorburst Edition

Black spatter on prints

After cleaning i can still get black spatter on my fine art paper prints. sometimes three or four prints in a row. ive removed the back and cleaned the wiper blade and the gasket on the pump cap(?)... then cleaned the ramps on the print head and the print itself (surface). Both my 9880s are about for years old or more and the other one can have a subtle banding problem that begins 2/3 of the way across the print. Ive done the print head adjust and it can still happen even with a good nozzle check. Are they just pat their useful life? thanks, mike

SOURCE: Not printing

You probably have paper debris stuck to the underside of the print head.

While you are printing, pull the lead from the back of the printer leaving the head free floating and unlocked so you can slide it back & fore. Get a piece of kitchen roll and fold it until it's the size of the track beneath the print head slide the head to the left, place the folded kitchen roll flat down in the print track, slide the head over the folded kitchen roll until it appears on both sides of the head. Grab both ends of the roll and lift it toward the head. Slide the roll sideways left and right to physically clean the bottom of the print head. Try not to tear it as it will trap under the head. let go of one end and slide the head away until you can pull the roll out. It should have a lot of ink and gunk on it. Plug the printer in and the head will reset itself.

Now because printing has been non existant, you'll need to "Prime" the heads. Use the maintenance software and click head cleaning, when finished do not allow the nozzle check pattern to print. Carry out 3 more head cleans cancelling the nozzle check after each one by clicking [Finish] until 4 cleans have been completed. Then allow the nozzle check pattern to print and it should be back to normal. If not perfect, carry out another "Prime" as above.

Hope this helped.

SOURCE: Black not printing about every 3rd line

You have the classic single nozzle failure it appears. You say you have done a nozzle check. This should reveal that one of the black nozzles is not working i.e. there is a single gap in your nozzle check printout for the black nozzles. Now, this may be due to a blocked nozzle. Try the following print head soak process.

Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then try a head clean again. If still nothing, report back

Try to print clean page ,
Print a cleaning page During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer and can cause print quality issues such as toner specks or spatter, smears, streaks, lines or repeating marks. Follow these steps to clean the printer's paper path.
  1. Load copier-grade paper (not bond, heavy, or rough paper).
  2. On the printer's control panel, touch the Menu button.
  3. Touch Configure Device .
  4. Touch Print Quality .
  5. Touch Process Cleaning Page .
A Cleaning message appears on the printer control panel display while the cleaning is taking place. The cleaning process takes a few minutes to complete. Do not turn the printer off until the cleaning process has finished. A page will be printed when the task is complete. Discard the page. You might need to repeat the cleaning process to thoroughly clean the printer. Print a few more pages to see if the problem is resolved.

Canon Inkjet, Not Printing?

Hi Rosa,
There was a paper jam and you cleared the jam, however you missed out to do one other thing. Cleaning the Rollers.

If the Paper Feed Roller is dirty or paper powder is attached to it, paper may not be fed properly.
In this case, clean the Paper Feed Roller. Cleaning will wear out the Paper Feed Roller, so perform this only when necessary.

You need to prepare: three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper

1.Make sure that the power is turned on, and remove any paper from the Rear Tray.

2.Open the Paper Output Tray gently, and open the Output Tray Extension.

3.Clean the Paper Feed Roller without paper.

(1) Press the g0081065_tcm14-774017.jpg (Maintenance) button repeatedly until b appears.

g0081066_tcm14-774018.png
(2) Press the Black or Color button.
The Paper Feed Roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

4.Clean the Paper Feed Roller with paper.
(1) Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller has stopped rotating, and load three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray.
(2) Make sure that b appears on the LED, then press the Black or Color button.
The machine starts cleaning. The cleaning will be completed after the paper is ejected.

This should fix the issue

I have a HP LaserJet 5P. This has been a great printer with excellent print quality. Recently I printed a file that had a lot of dark background. Since then the printer output has a spattered black...

Geez, a real oldie.
If you pull down the back door, I think that you can see the fuser.
It's been a long time, but let's see how this goes. The back of the fuser, I think pulls down.
If it does, look at the rollers inside. There are two of them. Do they look dirty or torn?
If yes, you need a fuser.
Run a 1/2 print test. Send a print job to the printer. It has to be about 4 pages. Use the manual feed tray, so that you can watch. When the sheet of paper gets 3/4 of the way in, open the top cover. Pull out the toner and look down at the paper. Does it have the black splatter?
If yes, replace the toner cartridge. If no, replace the fuser.

I have a hp deskjet 5150 which printed fine until yesterday (Oct. 13). Now I get a “black print cartridge isn't compatible with this printer” message, which, of course, is not true. I also have a blinking...

My first thought would be to remove the black ink cart. and clean the connectors with a Q-tip and alcohol (water will work in a pinch). Sometimes ink will spatter up into this area and cause problems. It is possible that the cart. has a malfunction also - but not likely.

Smudge marks on paper; otherwise normal

fuser is usually replaced as a assembly, it's the hot bit a back.

Can only be two things the drum or the fuser as our headstrong friend has correctly explained.

More than likely it is the drum they last about 4 toners i think.

Learn the art of getting a page to stop halfway threw printing, you want to stop the page after the drum has put a image on the paper but before paper has gone threw the fuser (hotbit).

Once you have mastered the position correctly by stopping the printing by opening the door and removing drum/toner cartridge, to reveal the paper that is printed but can be rubbed off, we will know if marks are coming from the drum (you will see them) or from the fuser, if print is fine
