The issue was caused by software that may have been installed with the option to burn or copy things to and from a disc.

The issue is resolved by the following:

Clicking start.
Typing regedit in the start search box.
Hit enter.
Look on left for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for SYSTEM.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for CurrentControlSet.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for Control.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for Class.
Click the arrow to the left of it.
Look for the first line of random letters and numbers. Example: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Click on the line itself this time. NOT the arrow.
Look on the right side under the data tab for (value not set).
Keep clicking the down arrow key until it says DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Then look under the name tab for either Upper Filter or Lower Filter or both.
Right on both these if listed (they may not always both be there).
Select delete.
Close windows and restart computer.

Where is the EJECT BUTTON on mytwo year old model # PP25L Dell Windows Vista laptop computer

If there is no physical eject button on your dvd drive, you can eject it with your operating system.
Go to My computer and right-click on your dvd drive. Your dvd drive should eject.

    My hl-dt-st dvd+-rw gsa t21n is corrupt!

I suspect that you are running Vista on your computer. If you have service pack 2 installed, then this is the reason for the missing drivers. When Microsoft issued SP2, they improved it worse. To make things worse, they will not correct the problem, instead, they issued Windows 7. Uninstalling the Windows drivers might help, but did not work for me. At start up, Windows should find the DVD drive as a new device, and ask for permission to look for and install the drivers. Click on no, and Windows will look for alternate drivers, from the firmware.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Hi, that sounds like the integerated video graphics is going bad and it's not actually the screen. the zd7000's were known for video graphics failure. there was a lawsuit filed against hp for the zd models about a year ago to get a free motherboard replacement because of the video issue but it's too late to send it in now for the free repair. the zd models don't have a replacable video card in them like most laptops which the only way to fix the problem ould be to purchase another motherboard, you could try ebay but they're not that cheap. DVD Drive ...missing?

Do you still need help with this?

When you bootup and access the setup screens by pressing F10 there is a property value for your multi purpose bay. It can be released at any time or only when the laptop is off. Is this set to anytime or was it set to only when off when you ejected the drive?

In any case you would need to reinstall the driver from HP and maybe then the drive bay could work. Otherwise, if its set to off and the Chaplin may have been doing this without using the Icon in the system tray to Safely Eject, etc. If done correctly youu usually okay. But, lets assume he hasn't. The drive bay chip may be damaged but I doubt it. To fix this you need to update and use the automatic software updater program. This should resolve issues, then it may not but it most likely will take care of a lot of problems including this. Click on the link below..

Here's the new software updater download location.

Should this is not work, Press F8 on startup and you'll see boot from D: the recovery partition. Do that. If its not on the first F8 screen escape and press F8 again immediately. You may see Repair my installation or words to that effect instead of Safe Mode.

    Good Luck,
    Worldvet
