Question about HP Computers & Internet
Hewlett packard oldish computer was turned off laast night and this morning it is in sleep mode and o matter which key we press we cannot get it up and running again
Sounds like it is locked up. There should be a power switch on the back. Switch it off, leave it off for a few minutes, then turn the back power switch on again and push the front power switch. If no rear switch, pull the plug. Windows doesn't like hard power downs, but if your system won't recognize the keystrokes or mouse movement, tere is nothing else you can do.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: stuck in sleep mode
Press the power button on the Computer it should come out of sleep mode then if it doesn't hold the power button of the computer down until the system turns completely off.
Then turn back on the computer should now boot fine. Once in windows goto control panel and select power option then adjust the setting.
Hope this helps you

SOURCE: Computer sleep mode
Power utilities (Sleep, Hibernate, Standby...) are invented most for laptops, to save battery power.
I dont't remeber anybody using power-savings on the Desktop PC.
You may use a (blank) screen saver, if you make pauses for about 30 minutes, but if you don't use your computer for more than that, I'd suggest to turn it off.
You save energy and avoid risks of loosing data if power gows down.
Of course you loose some time for next boot, but it is more safe.
Also, I want to mention that I've met abt 30 HDDs that never woke up from Standby.

One possibility is if you have an optical/laser mouse that is on a relective surface and the mouse light is reflecting and triggering the computer to think that there is activity.
More than likely, your network card is keeping your computer from staying in sleep mode as any internet data activity is taking the computer out of sleep mode making the computer think there is activity.
There is an option in the Network Adapter properties that says to "Allow this device to wake up your computer"
Go to Control Panel and click Classic View on the left hand side
Double Click the Network and Sharing Centre Icon.
On the left hand side of the window that opens, click Manage Network Connections.
Right Click on the connected Network Connection. It is probably the Local Area Connection. Right click on it and choose Properties
A new box will open up. Click the Configure button under the Connect Using: box
Click the last tab at the top that says Power Management.
Under the Power Management tab click the square box that is beside: Allow this Device to Wake the Computer to take the checkmark out of the box. Then Click OK at the botton and close all the windows.
Let the computer go into Sleep mode and see if the computer still comes out of sleep mode on its own.
Let me know if this worked for you,
