Question about Sony STR-DA90ESG

1 Answer

Don't receive hardly any FM stations

And have difficulty tuning in frequencies. Has anyone else had this problem? In my car, I pick up many stations, but only 2 on this receiver. I've hooked it up to an outdoor FM antenna, and no improvement. I've about given up!

Is this just a problem with my receiver or has anyone else had difficulties with receiving radio stations?

Thanks for the input! Yes, I poured through the manual, and came to the conclusion that RF was not high on the priority list of the engineers who designed this unit.

A Radio Shack guy suggested running a single strand of copper wire around the eve's of the house and use that as a super antenna. I haven't tried that. I just go grab the boombox....

Well I would consult your manual.  Home receivers usually dont have the same amplification factors that a mobile unit does as far as sensitivity.  But for best results make sure that you are using the supplied antenna, and put aluminum foil over it.  This will help amplify the signal.  Also consult the manual as to weather there is a setting for DX or Local.  If there is, make sure that it is not set to local.

DEH-P7900 BT US model. Isthere any way I could change the tuner frequency to european one. Thanks.

The DEH-P7900BT is almost identical to the DEH-P85BT sold in Europe.

This is a US model and will tune most AM/FM stations in the UK/Europe. The FM broadcast band is 87.8 to 108.0 MHz. so it will not pick up any FM stations outside this range. Also, the tuning is in odd increments (such as 96.1, 96.3, 96.5, etc.) so some stations with even frequencies will be slightly distorted, depending on the power of the signal the station generates.

I found this bit of info for you but ill keep looking and let you know what i find out.
Also have you tried it in europe to see if it does work or not let me know ok

How do I preset the tuner for radio stations. I've never had a problem doing this with any other stereo. But what I think should work isn't!

Not very specific. Do you have the manual?

The following is from a VSX-03TXH manual. It ain't pretty but it may help.

I'm posting it in multiple parts due to space contraints.

Chapter 6:

Using the tuner

Listening to the radio

The following steps show you how to tune in to FM and

AM radio broadcasts using the automatic (search) and

manual (step) tuning functions. If you already know the

frequency of the station you want, see Tuning directly to a

station below. Once you are tuned to a station you can

memorize the frequency for recall later-see Saving

station presets below for more on how to do this.

1 Press the FM/AM button to select the tuner.

2 Use the FM/AM button to change the band (FM or

AM), if necessary.

Each press switches the band between FM and AM.

3 Tune to a station.

There are three ways to do this:

Automatic tuning

To search for stations in the currently selected band,

press and hold TUNE ?©/?? for about a second. The

receiver will start searching for the next station,

stopping when it has found one. Repeat to search for

other stations.

Manual tuning

To change the frequency one step at a time, press

TUNE ?©/??.

High speed tuning

Press and hold TUNE ?©/?? for high speed tuning.

Release the button at the frequency you want.

Improving FM stereo sound

If the TUNED or STEREO indicators don't light when

tuning to an FM station because the signal is weak, press

the MPX button to switch the receiver into mono

reception mode. This should improve the sound quality

and allow you to enjoy the broadcast.

Using Neural THX

This feature uses Neural Surround™, THX® technology to

achieve optimal surround sound from FM radio.

• While listening to FM radio, press AUTO/DIRECT for
Neural THX listening.

OK, I'm writing info here as I couldn't get response in chat session.
Once FM station got tuned, press memory/ store button, display will flash, press preset number like 1 or 2 or other to store that tuned frequency in that particular preset.
Let me know for further question.
Thanks.

Manually tuning the reciever

you should be able to tune in manually.
press tune
press fm or am
press d. tuning
enter the frequency of the station 4 or 5 digits ie 9370 or 10450

another thing to look into would be getting a yagi fm antenna, they are directional and although you may have to rotate it for best results, they work great.
