SOURCE: Can't get the chain oiler to work. Using standard bar oil.

You can always put some penentrating oil in the saw oil tube by the bar, spray it in with the plastic straw attatched. Sometimes this will clean things out. As far as the tube being un attatched,,,, taking case apart is usually the remedy - kinda takes a while... :) Hope this helps you, Rick.

Hi - I need a manual for an old McCulloch chain saw EM12A

assuming from your description that the black bar is in front of the carry handle , it is a safety bar that you press forward to clutch drive to the chain when it gets jammed or you have finished cutting
pull back to engage the chain
go google and type in --user manual for mcculloch chainsaw model em12a --to get a pdf version to download

McCulloch 14" chain saw Model CS 38 EM It quit

Most often there is a dust-oil clog in the bottom of the bar slot which closes an oil passage between the bar slot and the hole drilled half way through the side of the bar. This provides a passage between the thin shim plate with the two bar bolt holes beside the bar and through to the oil tank or pump output. You can remove the bar and chain and punch out the blockage in the bar with a paper clip if the chain is removed. Make sure the wire can be pushed from the bar slot right through the side hole in the bar. A gravity feed chainsaw should leak right out into the slot of the shim plate, a button pumper should squirt out there with the bar removed. With a button pumper you may have a tiny check valve in the line or the push button to take apart, replace the spring or unstick the ball inside the check valve. This is why they went to the gravity feed oil system which just leaks in there and gets picked up by the bottom of the links as the chain races past the passage between the bar side hole and the chain slot.

In addition to the gas and oil mixture there is a place for just oil....what do I need to put in there ?

That's for the bar&chain oil. It dribbles onto the chain as the saw runs, lubricating the where the chain slides over the slot in the edge of the bar. Without this oil the chain & bar will overheat pretty quickly, ruining both the bar and the chain.
Good luck

What oil does it take

You provide no model number so my answer is limited. Use "Bar and Chain" oil available at most home centers and hardware stores.

You can likely find an OM for your saw here: If the entire model does not work try just the numbers then choose from the list provided.

Need to locate chain & bar oiler adjustment screw for mac 3200 chain saw

Look to the lower left side of the bar (as you hold the saw normally)--there should be a screw head in the engine case there. Check the adjustment by holding the bar tip at speed near a piece of cardboard for a couple of moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil. Hope this helps!

Chain bar not getting oiled

Oil System Plugged:
  1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar), if equipped with a sprocket nose ensure it rotates easily at least one complete revolution. Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out. Pay attention to the screen or filter on the free end (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up (oozes down side of saw). If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
  2. Work your way through the linkage (use IPL to identify components and locations) cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections. Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.
If it does not oil on completion of 1 and McCulloch it is most likely a defective hose or oil pump (see IPL).

You provide no model number, try for IPL here :

What weight oil to use for a McCulloch electric chain saw with self oiler

Bar and Chain oil, available at Home Centers and Hardware stores. It is 30 weight non-detergent with additives to keep it on the bar and chain. It's less expensive than motor oil by the quart. HTH

Mcculloch em300s electric chain saw stopped oiling the chain. I noticed the oil had all flowed out in storage shed and when I refilled it and used it I noticed the chain and bar were dry.

This is a little complicated so I’m going in small steps.
http://www.m-and-d.com/parts.html
Click “Illustrated Parts Diagrams ON LINE”
Click “Click Here for Parts Lookup”
Changes to “Select OEM” Window reads “Briggs & Stratton ▼” Click the arrow and select “McCulloch Power”
Click “Electric Chain Saws” The model number of your saw is probably on a tag affixed to the bottom. The tag also displays the serial number.
If it is a 300S the hyphen is the bar length.
I looked at the 300S-16 (same oiler parts as -14)
  1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar) Clean the saw’s oiler hole and channel. Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up. If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
  2. Item 15 has a filter on the bottom check it first, insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). If good I’d look closely at item 17. I can’t get enough detail from the IPL but that is the logical culprit.
Oil systems on all Mac Electrics appear pretty basic. Good Luck
