The defrost control on that model could well have failed. If it failed in the defrost mode, then the compressor and condenser fan motor would not run.
The timer is easy enough to remove. Take it to any appliance parts house. A good counter man if you explain the machine is not running could check the contacts that run the compressor.
If it's noisy I would replace it anyway.
If they can't cross the timer, just ask for a replacement with a timing sequence of 8 hours-30 minutes. That means it will run the machine for 8 hours, then shut it off, and defrost it for 30 minutes.
The other possibility is the cold control (thermostat which is located in the fresh food compartment.
That cold control is expensive and labor intensive to replace.
Buy it only if necessary.
However, both items are popular replacement items on your machine.

easy.. disconect power . important. remove the kick plate. the water valve is locate in the left side. its a blue color. inside a bracket or attached whit 2 screws ( depend on the serial break) remove the water valve from bracket. disconect the plug and the and the line and thats all.............................................. NOTE. MAKE SURE TURN THR WATER SUPLY MOST LIKELY IS THE COOPER LINE . CLOSE FROM THE WATER METER OUSIDE YOUR HOUSE OR CLOSE TO THE WATER VALVE....... Hissing and popping is normal, it is the defrost heater. Check that the freezer is level Check the drain pan Check the condensor fan Check the evaporator fan Inspect the compressor mounts Freezer runs continuously
Defrost the freezer Clean the condensor coils Check the door seals Freezer starts and stops frequently
Clean the condensor coils Check the outlet voltage Test the condensor fan Test the compressor relay Test the overload protector Test the compressor motor Freezer does not defrost automatically
