Assistance with diagnosing HU problem

Hi. I have a kenwood kdc-9015 car stereo. It just stopped working. It flips on and nothing comes on the display. I checked the fuse behind the HU and it is fine. I unhooked all the wires to reset, and the same results. I have an eq and then 2 amps running. All those turn on through the kenwood. The eq and amps power on and off, so I disconnected them completely for now. Any ideas?

Your radio will require one of the following procedures.

Type 1
During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds (so that “…” disappears).
Then using your remote enter your code.

Type 2
Press the "Auto" button and "Track up" on face of radio at the same time. The four dash lines ( . . . . ) should "disappear".

Then using your remote enter your code.

Type 3
Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030
Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset key (preset keys are the buttons on face of radio for storing you "favorite" radio stations). "C" should display.
Then using your remote, enter your code.

Enter your number from the remote control unit. Your code number is 5227 (KCAR)

* Press numeric key “5” ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key
* Press numeric key “2” ( 3 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key
* Press numeric key “2” ( 1 time ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key
* Press numeric key “7” ( 2 times ) and press the Track UP/Next Track key

The security is canceled and the set enters the TUNER mode!

it's a Canadian Kenwood.
I had the 925 purchased from Ebay, but I sold the car with it.
it's probably the ribbon wire broken between the face and the unit. I know that on Ebay some they use to offer a repair for these type of units.

there is a button under the back of the face in one corner, just press around the back of the face with the car on until you feel the button press in and it should open.

If not you may have a bad ribbon cable that is not too expensive to replace.

SOURCE: Kenwood KDC-MP825 car stereo problem

My wife experienced the same problem this month, December 2008, after owning the KDC-MP825 for 3.5 years (what's up with that?). It would power on briefly, the panel would move, then after 2 seconds it would shut down. After 15 seconds, it would power again, panel motors whir, then shut down. It would keep doing that while the key is in ignition.

This appeared to have solved the problem:
Hold down BUTTON [5], press the RESET button (you'll need a ballpen to press between the AUTO and SCRL button).

This was the procedure for getting the receiver out of demonstration mode. Maybe the cold weather here in New Jersey placed the unit into demo mode?

How do I unlock my Kenwood KDC-MP528 car stereo

To reset the code do the following:
1) Turn on the car.2) The faceplate rotates out and the CODE - - - - prompt appears.3) Press >>' and Auto keys simultaneously on the faceplate and hold for 4 seconds. (If the faceplate rotates back into the console push on the upper left top edge of the faceplate and it will flip back around. Press the Eject button and then try it again.)4) The screen will still say CODE, but the - - - - will disappear! When this happens press the 5 key on the remote twice and it enters a K on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.5) Press the 2 key on the remote three times and it enters a C on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.6) Press the 2 key on the remote once and it enters an A on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.7) Press the 7 key on the remote twice and it enters an R on the display on the faceplate. I have a kenwood KDC-MP438U stereo. Ipod error.

Hi If anything the stereo was probably designed and tested using a certain version of the Iphones software, now that version 4 has been released the way the IPhone communicates may have changed.

As a result the stereo is no longer able to talk to the phone and vice versa. your probably best off contacting Kenwood direct to see if they are aware of this problem and if there is anything that can be done about it.

Display disappeared on kdc 8021

If you mean that the rotating cover has flipped back round covering up the control panel turn on the ignition and push the top left of the panel. this should make the cover flip back around and make the interface available.

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!

KDC-MP919 No display

You probably have a break in the flexible ribbon cable that goes between the flip face and the mother board. Try for a replacement cable.

Kenwood kdc-322 faceplate problem?

I found my Kenwood KDC322 faceplate doing the same thing(cutting out) I cleaned the contact points on this 'ribbon' behind the faceplate by rubbing the discoloration off with a pencil eraser. The lights have not cut out again.

My head unit is awkward.

Check the wire braid going out to the faceplate. Although this is a fancy feature. it is very problematic. But usually it looks like a flat plastic strip with brown stipes on it. Sony calls it a flexible circuit board. after so many flips wires break the buttons stop working and when the face gets just is the right place it stops turning. but is repairable if you can order the braid from Kenwood about a skill level five to put in.
