Not connecting to the internet as certain locations

I maintain the computer at two locations. At home I have not problem with the internet but when I try to connect at my office it says "this page cannot be displayed??? what can I do?

    How do you connect on both locations?
    Lan? Hispeed? Router?
    Do you use same interface connected to what kind of media channel?

Connected to wifi but no internet connection


Wireless networks have become an increasingly popular way to access the Internet. Connecting to a wireless network allows you to browse the Internet without having to physically connect any cords to your computer.


Troubleshooting wireless connectivity can sometimes be confusing, because even if a wireless network is not able to bring you to any web pages, often your computer's wireless card will still connect to the wireless network that is being broadcast.


In other words, a wireless network will read "connected" even if it is not connected to the Internet.


Connect to a different wireless network. If there is an alternate wireless network within range of your computer that you legally are able to use (a free public Wi-Fi rather than your neighbor's wireless network, for instance), try connecting to it and browsing the Internet.


If the same issue occurs on the alternate wireless network, you may have an issue with your computer's wireless card or with your Internet browser.


If you are able to connect to the alternate network but still not able to connect to your own, the problem is most likely localized to the wireless network you use at home.


Reset all devices.

The great majority of Internet connection issues can be resolved by a simple reset of all the devices in your home network.


Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and unplug them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug its power cord) for a full 30 seconds.


Plug them back in and restart your computer.

Try to connect to the Internet using your wireless network after your computer has booted back up.


If the connection still fails, some further troubleshooting is required.

Bypass your wireless router.


If your computer's wireless card is connecting to your wireless network of choice yet you are still not able to access any websites, there may be a connection issue on either your modem or router.


The easiest way to locate the problem is to temporarily eliminate the router from the network. Locate the Ethernet cable that connects your modem to your router and unplug it from the router.


Plug the cable directly into one of the Ethernet ports on your computer and reset the modem in the manner described above.


Now try your Internet connection again. If there is still no Internet access, the problem is most likely with your modem or your computer; contact the technical support department of your Internet service provider (ISP) for further assistance.


If the modem goes online directly connected, your router is causing the problem and may need to be reconfigured. Contact the router manufacturer for further assistance.

Solution on a slow Internet connections Problem 
The major  causes for a slow Internet connections. A poor-performing connection can be caused by broadband router configuration issues, wireless interference, or any of several other technical issues with your home network. Follow these steps to diagnose slow Internet connections.
 1. Broadband Router Settings
As the centerpiece of a network, a broadband router can be responsible for slow Internet connections if configured improperly. For example, the MTU setting of your router will lead to performance issues if set too high or too low. Ensure your router's settings are all consistent with the manufacturer's and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) recommendations. Carefully record any changes you make to your router's configuration so that you can undo them later if necessary.
 2. Wireless Signal Interference
Wi-Fi and other types of wireless connections may perform poorly due to signal interference, which requires computers to continually resend messages to overcome signal issues. Household appliances and even your neighbors' wireless networks can interfere with your computers. To avoid slow Internet connections due to signal interference, reposition your router for better performance and change your Wi-Fi channel number.
 3. Internet Worms
An Internet worm is a malicious software program that spreads through computer networks. If any of your computers are infected by an Internet worm, they may begin spontaneously generating network traffic without your knowledge, causing your Internet connection to appear slow. Run antivirus software regularly to diagnose and remove these worms from your computers.
 4. Running Background Applications
Some software applications you install on a computer run in the background, quietly consuming network resources. Unlike worms, these are programs designed to do useful work. Peer to peer (P2P) programs in particular can heavily utilize your network and cause connections to appear slow. It's easy to forget these applications are running. Always check computers for any programs running in the background when troubleshooting a slow network.
 5. Faulty Network Equipment
When routers, modems or cables fail, they typically won't support connections. Certain technical glitches in network equipment, however, adversely affect performance even though connections are maintained. To troubleshoot potentially faulty equipment, temporarily re-arrange and re-configure your gear while experimenting with different configurations. Try bypassing the router, swapping cables and changing network adapters to isolate the slow performance to a specific component of the system.
 6. Service Provider Issues
Internet speed ultimately depends on the service provider. Your ISP may change their network's configuration, or suffer technical difficulties, that inadvertently cause your Internet connection to run slow. ISPs may also intentionally install filters or controls on the network that can lower your performance. Don't hesitate to contact your service provider if you suspect they are responsible for a slow Internet connection.

Multiple Computers on Same Network, Continual Internet Connection Dropout


After adding that second or third computer to your home network are you constantly fighting over who's using the internet connection? When your high schooler logs into his facebook chat, are you getting dropped off of your internet connection?
Or have you added a wifi router and is your whole network not staying connected like it did before you added your wifi?
These are common issues and we answer these questions often at FixYa.
Here is s a tip that will get you past the internet connection being dropped by someone else on your network attempting to log into the internet or help you get that wifi up and working with out all the cut outs and drop offs.

Follow this simple procedure and you'll be amazed!
1. Turn off everything. Turn off computers, routers, modem, printers... everything that's on your LAN (local area network) or home ethernet.
2. Turn on your wireless router next. With the ethernet cable connected to your wifi router to your modem and let it cycle up to running. If you aren't running wifi, do this with your main router. Make sure your modem and everything else is still off.
3. Turn on your modem (enet cable attached to wifi router or main router) and let the modem cycle up to running.

What you've done is allowed your wifi router to be established as the "MAC" Address for your modem. Modems look for a single MAC address. Once the router has this address, the router will maintain the connection with the modem and the internet, AND will assign MAC addresses to your computers, network printers, network routers etc, while still maintaining your connection to the internet.

4. Turn on all other peripherals, computers and network printers. At this point the order of power up isn't important, because your router will be assigning separate addresses to all the computers, etc on your network.

That's it! The secret's out! Just keep this handy... remember if you have power outage, you'll need to reboot in this order again... Happy Home Networking

The router is not connected to the internet. Check the cable from the router to the modem - try a new cable. Reboot both devices. Connect a computer directly to the modem to make certain you have internet.
The final solution is a factory reset of your router. You can do a factory reset by logging into the router using you browser. Go to the settings and perform a factory reset

If you forgot the router password, you ill have to do a factory reset by locating a small hold on the back of the router and insert the tip of of paper clip for about 10 seconds while the power is on. The router will be reset to out of box status and then you can set-up form scratch.

What web-sites?

Are you using your school's network to access the Internet?
Are you using your employer's network to access the Internet?

The school/employer may have installed "filtering" software.

Do you have the problem on ONE computer at ONE location,
or MANY computers at the SAME location,
or when accessing from your HOME computer?

Can not connect my i-pod touch to the wireless internet at home. computer connects ok. i-pad touch connects at other locations, but not at home.


In your wireless management tab, select "forget connection". Select your network to connect to, enter password information, and you should be good to go.

I have all the numers and everything in the rigt spots 2 hook up 2 the wirless router but it keepssaying error code 8001000A.... Do u know what the problem is?


This setting is available only on PS3™ systems that are equipped with the wireless LAN feature.

Set the method for connecting the system to the Internet. Internet connection settings vary depending on the network environment and the devices in use. The following procedure describes a typical setup when connecting to the Internet wirelessly.

Check that the settings for the access point have been completed.
Check that there is an access point connected to a network with Internet service near the system. Settings for the access point are typically set using a PC. For details, contact the person who set up or maintains the access point.

Confirm that an Ethernet cable is not connected to the PS3™ system.

Select (Network Settings) under (Settings) in the home menu.

Select [Internet Connection Settings].
Select [Yes] when a confirmation screen is displayed stating that you will be disconnected from the Internet.

Select [Easy].


Select [Wireless].


Select [Scan].
A list of access points within the range of the PS3™ system is displayed.

Depending on the model of PS3™ system in use, you may have the option [Automatic]. Select [Automatic] when using an access point that supports automatic setup. If you follow the on-screen instructions, the necessary settings will be completed automatically. For information on access points that support automatic setup, contact your local retailer.


Select the access point that you want to use.
An "SSID" is an identification name assigned to an access point. If you do not know which SSID you should use or if an SSID is not displayed, contact the person who set up or maintains the access point for assistance.


Check the SSID for the access point.

Select the security settings that you want to use.
The types of security settings vary depending on the access point. Contact the person who set up or maintains the access point for information on which setting to select.


Enter the encryption key.
The encryption key is displayed as a series of [*]. If you do not know the encryption key, contact the person who set up or maintains the access point for assistance.

When you have finished entering the encryption key and have confirmed the network configuration, a list of settings will be displayed.

Depending on the network environment, additional settings for PPPoE, proxy server or IP address may be required. For details on these settings, refer to the information from your Internet service provider or the instructions supplied with the network device.

Save your settings.

Test the connection.
If you select [Test Connection], the system will attempt to connect to the Internet.

Confirm the connection test results.
If a successful connection has been made, information on the network will be displayed.

Hints If the connection fails, follow the on-screen instructions to check your settings. Also refer to the information from your Internet service provider and the instructions supplied with the network device in use.
If you test the connection immediately after selecting [Automatic] > [AOSS™] in step 7, the router settings may not be completed and the connection may fail. Wait approximately 1 or 2 minutes before testing the connection.

Cannot get onto internet


disable the firewall on control panel.
check all the properties boxes on the network
connections and make sure firewall is disabled.

access the router setup and make sure that VCI is set to manual
and that you enter in the settings yourself (eg: 0,38 for aol broadband). Don't leave VCI, etc on auto, the router can't handle it.

Multiple computers, 1 modem, ethernet


If I were you, I would definately go with a wireless network. If you purchased a good router (Linksys or Netgear) you shouldnt experience loss of speed or connection. (If everything is installed correctly) If you need help, you could call the company who provides the router, Internet service Provider, or Geeksquad.
