Question about KitchenAid KCMS1555RSS Stainless Steel Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave stopped heating, evenything else works

KitchenAid KCMS1555RSS stopped heating. Everthing else works, full display works, time counts down, turntable rotates, light comes on, etc. but no heat. First three times this happened, I fixed it by unplugging the unit, waiting a few seconds, and then trying again. Unit worked each time for another week or so. Happened again, and now power cycling it does not help.

Everything appears to be working normally, except it does not heat the food. Any ideas?

Microwave was only about 7 months old. Turned out to be a bad magnetron which KitchenAid did warranty.

    Thanks for the ideas!

Same description, no heat but everything else works except makes loud hum. Magnatron? Cost to replace? Unit is just past warranty period, of course.

    Any unusual noises? Is
it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

    With the symptoms you
have described, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier
diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

How old is it / how many years have you owned it?

The problem is one or two bad door switches, "more than likely" the less likely is the keypad control board.

My microwave doesn't work, but display works

I would strongly consider replacing the microwave oven, prices have dropped considerably. The problem you are describing is in the keypad controller board.

If it is making a loud noise, check the diode and magnetron for damage.
BEWARE OF LETHAL VOLTAGES!
The fault may be just the diode and a reasonable cost will be involved. If it is the magnetron, depending upon where you purchase one from will command the price.
Hope that helps.

Everything seems to work fine until you hit the start button than nothing happens except the timer starts counting down

If everything appears to be working normally, as you say the timer counts down, the light comes on, turntable rotates etc. then the problem will be linked to the magnetron not operating & not heating the food. This could be just a thermal fuse device which may have gone faulty but if it is a magnetron fault then the cost of getting this replaced can be expensive & it might be more economical to buy a new microwave. I would advise taking it to a local repair centre, one which gives free estimates to get a quote on a price.

Nnt553w panasonic microwave. Whilst heating something he oven stopped and the display said refer to operating instructions. Now seems to be working but doesn't heat.

When you enter the time and press Start:

Does the inside light come on?

Does the turntable rotate?

Do you hear the internal cooling fan running?

Does the time count down?
