A dryer moisture sensor can stop working without notice, until you notice your clothes being over dried or still wet at the end of the cycle. It is a good practice to test the dryer moisture sensor periodically. There are two types of moisture-detecting sensors for dryers. Once you understand how they work you will see how to test each one. 1. Sensor BarThese sensors contain digits that protrude outwardly. They work on an electrical current and the moisture from the clothing. The first step to test is to place completely dry clothes in the dryer and turn on the dryer; it should run for a few moments and then shut down right away. Secondly, place damp clothes into the dryer, turn on the dryer and watch the timer. As the clothes begin to dry the timer will move and shut off. 2. ThermostatThe timer is regulated by the thermostat. The thermostat rests in a closed position. To test this type of moisture sensor, place damp clothes in the dryer. Watch the timer; as the clothes begin to dry, the thermostat should open and the timer will move forward ,eventually shutting off.
Close the door firmly. The dryer will not operate if the door is not completely closed.
Press the "Start" button firmly or push the knob in to start the dryer.
Turn the dial past the "Off" position and away from "Wrinkle
Prevent." The dryer will not start in the "Off" or "Wrinkle Prevent"
Long Drying Times
Remove the lint screen. Clean it and replace it.
Check the temperature of the room. The dryer will not operate properly in temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
Inspect the area around the dryer. It requires at least
1-inch clearance on the front and sides of the dryer. A 5-inch clearance
is needed on the back of the dryer. Move the dryer, if needed.
Separate large loads and do not use an air dry cycle.
Lint, Stains and Wrinkles
Clean the lint screen before drying each load of clothes to prevent lint buildup on clothing.
Add fabric softener sheets before starting a drying cycle.
If the sheets are added after the load has partially dried, they can
leave stains on the clothing.
Dry small loads and remove clothing as soon as the drying cycle completes to prevent wrinkling.
Dryer is Noisy
Check the inside of the dryer for loose change, buttons or other items. Empty the pockets on clothing before drying.
Separate items that are knotted together and restart the
load. Knotted or balled up clothing will bounce and make the dryer
Level the dryer. Turn the leveling legs on the front of the
dryer clockwise or counter-clockwise until the dryer is level. Turning
the legs clockwise will lower the dryer. Turning the legs
counter-clockwise will raise the dryer.
you have a bad exhaust sensor on the unit, when the clothes are dry and the temperature raises hotter and hotter, the sensor realizes the clothes are dry and breaks the circuit, the sensor is located on the exhaust tube. the exhaust tube is what the hose attaches to to vent the air outside, take the exhaust tube off, then the back of your dryer and look to see where the tube is that vents from the dryer to the back where the attachment was, there should be a sensor there with two wires, you can test it for continuity but it will probably be stuck closed so you will get continuity no mater how hot it gets, just replace it with a new on... its probably 25 bucks
try cleaning the moisture sensor bars just inside the door and below the door,with isopropyl alcohol of course after unplugging the unit for fire safety,these 2 chrome colored bars detect the moisture in the clothes and when they are wet they slow or even completely stop the timer,as they dry they let the timer again move,if they get a film on them they will not operate the timer correctly,they work on capacitance
you will need to get behind the dryer and disconnect the vent tube, try drying a load of clothes with the vent tube disconnected if it drys then the tube is the problem and needs to be cleaned out. If it is not drying at all then it is a few things, I am assuming its electric here is a website that will help:
I would be REALLY suspicious of the exhaust vent. If the dryer is heating up and the drum is turning, it has to dry the clothes UNLESS there is no air going through the dryer. Disconnect the air outlet flexible plastic duct at the back of the unit, and turn it on. If there is no or very little air coming out, the inside of the unit will be plugged with lint. If there is lots of air coming out, the exhaust duct or the outside flapper will be plugged. Sometimes if the exhaust is routed through a cold space there will be so much condensation in the duct that it will droop and literally fill up with water.
You either have a restriction somewhere in the venting which you say you have already checked or maybe a bad blower (fan). it may be stripped off the shaft and not pulling any air through the machine. If you run the dryer with the hose removed at the back and it dries well you have a problem with your venting. If it still takes three cycles it's a problem with the dryer. Repair would probably run about $100-150
Generally whilpool dryers heat of dont heat.. output should be around 150 .. i would check hose to make sure not clogged or just run without hose and see if that makes a difference... post if need more help
