SOURCE: Canon PIXMA 530 grinds away

I had a persistant grinding noise about 30 seconds after the printer finished printing. It's been going on about 2 months. I did one thing which seemed to work. So try opening the cover on the back of the machine by lifting upward on the gray lever in the middle of the back of the machine. Leave this cover open during and after printing. The grinding noise went away.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP160 Printer is making a grinding

Good day sir/maam, the gear on your printer that holds the print head/ink is stuck, loosen it by applying oil or contact cleaner, check your local dealer if they have warrantee for your printer. If you really want to do the repairs yourself the service is like this.

  • open the printer, and check what is causing the grinding. usually mechanical elements are involve.
  • remove dirt and clean the ink spill.
  • loosen the print head/ink, apply oil and contact cleaners.
  • check the contacts and connectivity of the mechanical parts with the main circuit board.
  • test parts and if needed, replace it.
  • test and retest. do everything again until the printer works.
Hope this may help, its kinda dirty but saves you money for service.

SOURCE: Canon mf6530 crumples paper and makes grinding

I pressume that paper is wrinkled in fixing section. Probably the fixing bushings are worn out. The grinding noise could be from paper when it stuckes, but also from gears.Call service.
There is a trick if paper is moisturized. Flip paper in cass. up side down, and try again.

Xerox 6360dn, Tray 2 makes loud grinding noise when printing. Tray 1 is as quiet as a mouse. Replaced tray 2 with a known good tray and it still makes grinding noise.

In my experience, it was the registration roller causing the grinding noise. See http://my.brainshark.com/Phaser-6300-6350-6360-Grinding-Noise-795590408 for troubleshooting video.

Canon MX7600 error 5100, 5C20

Yes, 5100 means the carriage is not moving back and forth properly or there is grease on the encoder strip behind the carriage assembly. Grease spots make it lose count and slam into the side and grind gears. You need to clean the strip with a Q-tip moist with alcohol, but very carefully, not too much pressure on the strip.

Lexmark C510 is making grinding noises while printing large jobs

I found another posting stating that the culprit was the black toner cartridge. Sure enough I changed our black cartridge and the grinding noise has stopped. No wonder the grinding noise was not happening all the time only when the black cartridge got low. Thanks for the help!

Canon MP530 Makes Grinding Noise when printing starts

I had this same problem and called tech support. Instead of sending a new printer they had me

1 remove print Cartridges
2 remove print head
3 replace print head
4 replace print Cartridges
5 unplug power from the wall

This seemed to fix the problem.....for me anyway.....for now.

hope it helps
