Maytag Gas Dryer SDG515DAWW - heating stopped

This Legacy Series dryer has worked fine for about 4 years, but today it stopped providing hot air. All electrical works fine, and drum turns. I checked the igniter and it does not glow hot.
Is there a good way to check and see if the problem is with the igniter versus the thermostat versus something else? I would like to try and order the correct part the first time.
Thanks
Bruce Same symptom: No ignition, but apparently no power fed to the ignitor. Checked ignitor-coil by powering from outside ->OK! Motor runs fine, but no heat. What could it be preventing power getting to the ignitor?

Thanks so much 'TheMobilian'. I think I'm on the right track: found and checked thermal fuse-> no connection between the poles (I guess = melted) and will replace it first. If needed, next I'll have an eye on thermostat (the fuse-melting could be a consequence of a bad thermostat) and the 2 coils. Have to wait for parts; let you know.

Well, after double-checking continuity of thermostat and thermal fuse under better conditions out of the dryer, before ordering any parts, these parts were good and I ended up replacing just the ignitor (bought it at 'Appliance Parts Specialist' on the web and received it next day, 17.06 + 4.95 S+H).
The alignment lip on the ceramic-body of the replacement-ignitor was longer than on the original part and I carefully removed some material making it fit into the slot in the mounting bracket. The dryer runs perfectly again.
Thanks for all the educational help!

The heat is regulated with a Klixon mounted next to the blower housing near the vent pipe so it can judge the temperature of the air coming out of the drum.Right next to it is a melting type fuse. If the dryer runs and gets too hot the fuse will melt. But the dryer will still run. So if the fuse is good(continuity) and the dryer control(cycle) thermostat is also good then you should have power going to the gas valve assembly when the machine is running unless the timer is in the no heat or wrinkle free/cool down mode. When the gas valve assembly is energized the flame sensor Maytag Gas Dryer SDG515DAWW - heating stopped - a%20flame%20sensor%202.bmp flame sensor mounted outside the burner chamber detects the heat from the ignitor. When the heat is very intense then the sensor shuts down the igniter

It stays on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes or until the control thermostat is satisfied and shuts down power to the gas valve assembly.

2 year old maytag gas dryer blowing warm air

Hi, Is there ant heat at all? Is it possible the dryer heats at first and stops later in the cycle? The first thing to check is the 4" vent going to the outside. Make sure it is cleared of lint and that it is not pinched off at all.
If the vent is ok, you might need to replace the coils on top the gas valve.
I can help you with this. I just want to narrow it down.
